Thappad

Interesting look at domestic violence and divorce from a Bollywood perspective is well intentioned but overlong and meandering - the first act takes nearly 40 minutes to set the (fairly simple) scene so that once the pivotal incident arrives, a sense of inertia has already crept in, which only gets worse as the film travels its largely predictable course. Well performed and a necessary story to tell, but too long winded and unfocused to be successful.

so meta, so real, so deep, a hard hitting film, highlights relationships flaws so intricately, highlights human nature flaws, amazing parallel mini plots, this movie not only humbles you but also makes you more sensitive of your actions and words. PS: I guess a lot of watchers of this movie would have waited for the guy to say sorry for so long, anyway, I did.

Another necessary punch to the face of patriarchy in its Indian form. Men have yet to learn to say they are sorry for so much, in a world they kill little by little every day. At times scathing, but also often overly dramatic (the score is not often subtle or well suited to the scenes.)
