Not a great end to Lubitsch's career, That Lady in Ermine is a musical that rehashes all of his old themes. It is a lush production with a very good cast, and has more clarity than some comedies of its time, but it's considerably sappier and not quite as funny as Lubitsch's finest works.

That Lady in Ermine (1948) lost a ton of money and killed Ernst Lubitsch, but I still found a pleasing feeling from it. I can sense a lot of the Lubitsch touches, even if Otto Preminger took over the production already on the 9th day. A dreamy picture with Betty Grable shining full force as a fantasy blinding everybody, especially Douglas Fairbanks Jr.. And with that comes a very familiar playful nature associated with Lubitsch pictures, even if it's mostly just in vision and not execution.
