Plays out as a hideously warped piece of anti-American propaganda. Apparently it's now OK to make casually lighthearted jokes about pedophilia, incest & domestic violence. There's nothing rebellious or radical in unrepentant racism, sexism & homophobia. Worst of all it tries to implement some rotten kind of morality to it all. I loath to sound moralistic but since there are zero laughs, it's all I'm left with. I just want everyone to know I sat through this film. Every. Last. Shit-stained. Frame

I read a lot of positives about this movie before seeing it. "Sandler returns to form" "best Sandler movie in ages." etc. In reality Sandler has set the bar so low that if you barely crack a smile in one of his films now it's considered a triumph. While this was slightly better than some of his newest stuff it was still a gigantic piece of shit that no one should ever watch.

For being a 2 hour commercial for Budweiser, this movie was pretty funny. Adam Sandler's character is just a parody of Adam Sandler, but it really is a return to form for Sandler. Andy Samberg, funny as always, really completed the package. Appearances by Susan Sarandon, James Caan, and Vanilla Ice really make this movie a great buddy movie that has a little heart to it. I think the movie could have been cut down a good ten to fifteen minutes.

Would actually be a pretty decent comedy if Sandler just stayed away from his funny voice. Awesome ending.

I will ignore how hilarious this film is and go into my deeper reading of this film: This film is Sandler trying to find his place in the new era of comedy. Where his style of comedy is seen as somewhat outdated, but undeniably entertaining and underneath, somewhat smart. Is wazzzzap back? Yes it is and so is Adam Sandler and deep down, even if you don't want to admit it, you'll laugh.

I actually liked the ending, though I can't be certain whether a) it was because I was aware the film was ending, b) it was because this film broke me, or c) that the jokes actually landed. That's My Boy is a terrible film. The entire cast is better than this. The opening showed promise, but the puerile, shallowly offensive plot that followed is a waste of time.

Sandler's mid-80s-to-early-90s teen fantasies really sound annyoing through his old lady's-like (?) voice. But that's not the point. Anders is willing so much to be inappopriate that is all just looks, well, boyish. Its edginess featuring constant drinking/cursing/punching, masturbation, jizz, sex (with teacher or grandma) and incest should either shock or provoke laughs, but it's shown as moral vignettes of humiliation and embarrassment. Please, Farrellys, save Sandler -- and cast Vanilla, too.

Damn right it's offensive. You don't lose 200 pounds and get sag-free Samberg skin on your torso. You look like the underside of an octopus with very short tentacles.

That's My Boy is the funniest movie I've seen in ages. It's also one of the stupidest, most obnoxious, least politically correct, and most daring -- for a comedy, that is -- as well. The R-rating is really the only reason that this movie works as well as it does, because you tell this same story with a PG-13, and you're not getting many laughs. All of those come from the boundary pushing material included within, and if you like that sort of stuff, this is almost a must-see.

I really only got a handful of laughs out of this, which was disappointing because I usually like Adam Sandler movies. My first thought after the intro: "Tell me he's not doing that voice for the whole... Yeah, he's doing that voice for the whole movie."

So aggressively grating that I wanna give it props, and for a while there in the first 20-30 minutes I thought maybe I'd sorta like it. I go for stupid shit and gleeful bad taste but Sandler and his voice and his persona just gets so incredibly fratty and dated and just wildly off the charts annoying. Surprisingly, Milo Ventimiglia sorta stole the thing.

Really, everything hinges on your willingness to laugh at the outrageousness Sandler puts on the screen, but that path is eased by a likable character who has the gift of disarming those around him with his charming, foul-mouthed humor. When Donnie says he can hold his head up because he knows he's a good person, you can agree because everyone else thinks he's a good person. As stupid as it is, it actually works. Which is maybe the epitaph Sandler has already chiseled into his tombstone.

Adam Sandler draws back into his comedic well, and attempts to wrestle a dumb comedy premise into a enjoyable farce. Unfortunately, as increasingly expected the movie was just a regrettable stupid comedy. Sandler is in a position to just do his shtick and he does it better than he has in a while, but as usual the actual script leaves so much to be desired for the talented cast.

Weak Sandler vehicle was his misguided attempt to return to his roots and push the anti-PC jokes further than he did in Zohan. Unlike Zohan though, the racial/gender/cultural stereotypes come across as ugly and mean spirited, and it's basically a crude celebration of obnoxious bone headed behaviour. Sandler's vulgarity elicits a few laughs, but it quickly wears thin, and Samberg is wasted as his estranged son, although there are some amusing cameos, notably by Ice and Sarandon.

The first 9 minutes of the film are definitely worth watching, hilarious. The rest of the film, not quite the Adam Sandler gold that I like, it's watchable. Would 100% recommend you watch the first 9 minutes with friends(mostly boy humor tho), don't watch the rest, it ain't bad but not overly great either, you just got better stuff to watch. Go watch Arthur(2011) instead same genre but Arthur is non stop funny punchlines with hardly any filler mediocrity in between and humor for both sexes.

I'm fundamentally a child and I generally still like any of Sandler's R-rated stuff. Plus I love Samberg. There's a lot of fun jokes, but there are also a lot of whiffs. Probably would have been 5-10 points better if Sandler just didn't use a dumb voice.

This is pretty on par for Sandler and his production company at this point of his career. That’s My Boy boarders on genuinely offensive topics and moralistically bankrupt ideas that it’s kind of interesting to watch play out due to how many fucks aren’t given. This isn’t good, and for the most part is void of much laughter that a 13 year old wouldn’t find amusing. That’s mostly what has become of Sandler in his later years, and sadly, this is just another one of those ones for him.

Not the worst Happy Madison production out there, which, granted, may be akin to saying it’s the least disgusting dog turd to freeze and eat as a popsicle, but, you know. Adam Sandler doing a WACKY VOICE for the entire film, again. But there are a couple amusing scenes with the rowdy father/square son dynamic. Milo Ventimiglia doesn’t do much comedy but when he does he’s actually pretty funny.

"That's My Boy lazily exists in a fantasyland of Adam Sandler's perpetual adolescence, even as it generates some moderate comic friction from Sandler and Andy Samberg's testy back-and-forth." - Nick Schager

The premise of the film is basically what if one of Adam Sandler's 90's buffoon characters had a kid when he was really young? Instead of this being a funny premise it turns out this is a really depressing premise. Hence this movie is not funny. There are some really talented and funny people in this film but with a weak premise and script most of them fall flat. My advice to you is skip this film.

After a promisingly satirical opening, THAT'S MY BOY becomes pretty standard Adam Sandler fare: asinine, crass humor, one-dimensional stereotypes for characters, a totally predictable story, and a bit of a message. Not much of it is funny (the odd moment aside), and most of it is actively grating; Sandler seems a little less self-loathing than usual, but Andy Samberg, stuck with a badly written role, plays it badly. The script is largely wretched; also, Nick Swardson is inherently unfunny.

For the most part, a lot of fun, but every time you think it might make the leap into being a legitimately good comedy, it dives right back down into the doldrums again. It's a shame, because this movie had the potential to be Sandler's best all-out comedy in a decade. Hell, maybe it still is, considering the tragically bad competition. I dunno, I guess I won't complain too much, I got a decent few laughs out of the thing, and that's really all that could be expected of a movie like this.
