The 6th Man

Almost saw this in theaters , the ticket lady instead sold us tickets to DOUBLE TEAM with Van Damme and Dennis Rodman. I remember walking out and my dad going “I thought that was suppose to be a funny basketball movie”. It still rings true.

It has a few moments. But not enough to make it anything worth watching, except when forced to as a cheesy rainy-day-gym-class movie.

Has a Wayans brother ever done anything good? Seriously. Being in Requiem for a Dream does not count, because that movie is over-hyped as it is.

As far as sports comedies go, you can certainly do worse. It's essentially 'Angels in the Outfield' with an 'urban' basketball twist. The first half hour has some genuine heartfelt moments when dealing with Antoine's passing and then when his ghost returns to help the team, things get pretty wacky. I enjoyed it as a kid, especially as a Seattle Sonics/Washington Huskies fan.
