The 8th Night

There is a good movie here somewhere. There are a few creepy visuals as well. However the characters aren't well done, the pacing is off and the story is unsatisfying.

While it's kind of interesting to see a horror film based on Buddhist notions, at times its narrative convolutions seem almost impossible to follow, and the overall presentation remains generic and overblown, while also progressing rather slowly. Ultimately just another tale about the difficulty and necessity of overcoming past trauma rather than letting it fester in resentment: a fine message, but constantly on the verge of being trite. Doesn't reward the viewer's effort.

Interesting story, it pulled off the creepy element pretty well, but the characters weren't very compelling, it was confusing, and it just didn't quite come together. Good, but not great.
