Young plays a neurotic character who digs herself a grave for the length of the film. I'm not a fan of films with that style, but it has enough cohesion and bits of originality that it didn't bother me too much. Similarly, there's some overused psychoanalysis, but it doesn't overshadow the interesting themes the film touches on.

I found this unusually gripping, I guess, getting pretty tense in some of the film's more suspenseful moments. Loretta Young gives a good performance.

A little heavy on the mumbo jumbo maybe, but not annoyingly so. Loretta Young does a good job with it. I still don't think much of Robert Cummings, his smarminess nearly ruins Saboteur and he's not much better here. However, Wendell Corey is always a delight. There's a few clever bits of business, particularly with reflections. The film does suffer from a couple of common noir flaws: a lousy score and a conclusion that's too tidy. Otherwise, though, it's quite enjoyable.

Gets too predictable too soon and the ending is horrible. The psychological coating is also way too thin to be interesting. However, Young is pretty good in her role and the first half isn't too bad.

The stupid Hollywood romance aspect took over what was otherwise a intriguing psychological study of a woman killing in self-defense. A class performance by Loretta Young, assisted by a a damn good selection of men who's out to get her in various ways. The inconclusive ending didn't help, but we all know where they were going with it, so perhaps everyone thought it was redundant keep that in there.
