In this classic comic caper, struggling actors O'Malley (Michael Caine) and Tom (Dylan Moran) are looking for an escape from the nightly humiliation of repertory theatre. One befriends a local gangster and hatches an apparently foolproof plan to make some easy cash. In order to pull off the scam they take on various disguises and characters and discover a talent for crime, that they never had for acting. Quirky Irish farce about a couple of low rent actors who concoct a get rich quick scheme that involves pretending to be tough gangsters to hustle another gangster out of 50 grand. Of course things go horribly wrong and their scheme gets crazier and crazier to try and cover everything up. It's a lot of fun seeing Dylan Moran playing a variety of insane characters, but it probably has limited appeal for anyone other than Moran's fans, as some of the madcappery seems kinda forced.

Endearing comedy is a little too silly at times, and probably goes on too long, but is made worthwhile by Caine's hilarious performance as an old ham, and Moran's unusually likable lead. Gambon is also a hoot as a dopey gangster with a bad rug. By no means perfect, or consistent, but worthwhile for fans of the stars.

I watched this movie because of Michael Caine acting in it. Caine was excellent but Dylan Moran did impress even more. Last time i saw him in Notting Hill as book thief. Movie is kind of silly, as theatre actors are goofing around and producing many funny moments.
