I stand by this film as the greatest TV-to-movie adaptation ever made. The cast (Julia, Huston, Lloyd and Ricci in particular) is absolutely perfect and the script is still darkly hilarious 20 years later. RIP Raul Julia.

A wonderfully clever story applied to the venerable Addams Family mythos. Everything is in keeping with the flavor and style we have all come to love. Raul Julia and Christina Ricci are standouts, but Anjelica Huston and Christopher Lloyd are also wonderful in their characters. Great fun from beginning to end.

The weakness of this is that there is nothing to see how messed up the Addams are in their world save for a few brief moments and a bit of the ending, it's all in their house. IN my own lil house I'ma hoot and a holler but when I'm out and a bout I'm a stupid idiot.

The plot isn't terribly compelling but the upside-down dynamics of the titular family more than make up for it. They're kooky, crafty, and hilariously morbid (young Wednesday of course is a highlight: "Are they made from real Girl Scouts?")-and a far cry from the harried suburban Mom & Dad of 90s VHS tapes are parents Gomez and Morticia who ooze romantic passion ("How long has it been since we've waltzed?" "Oh Gomez.. hours"). Endlessly quotable and wholly memorable (see the bloody school play).

Very true to the style of the comics and the original show, the humor is clever and unique. The Addams Family is a purely fun and charming film with an absolutely incredible cast and entertaining story. Really good!

A veritable hand book for the Hot Topic generation, The Addams Family is actually a smarter comedy that it may first appear to be. The performances are inspired; topped off with humorously morbid dialogue and slapstick humor that never feels excessive.

Black comedy for kids, specifically those too young to remember the mid-Sixties television sitcom of the same name. The pattern of inversions is simple to grasp -- the bouquet of rose stems with the blossoms snipped off, the children holding a TV antenna outdoors in a lightning storm -- and then it just goes on repeating itself (inside a dormant long-lost-brother plot). This sort of thing comes more welcome at intervals of one cartoon per issue of The New Yorker than at 24 frames per second.

Raul Julia should have beaten Anthony Hopkins for the Oscar. Gomez Addams is still way cooler than any Hannibal Lecter.

This is, perhaps surprisingly, the most heart-warming and adorable family in film. Gomez and Morticia's love and passion for each other after years of marraige is not just hot and steamy but also cute and addicting to watch, and their non-judgmental, understanding and supportive style of parenting should be a model to the rest of us, The cast all do great jobs in their roles; and the aesthetic is lovingly tailored as well.

Everyone's favorite creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky Addams Family make their big screen debut in this 90's kids' classic. As much as the Addams family home is covered in cobwebs and creepy crawlies, this movie is teeming with personal nostalgia. Masterfully cast, the wonderfully performances, clever humor, and macabre aesthetic charm of everything, elevates a so-so story into an entertaining watch for the whole family, living or dead.

Kooky, nutty, and stylistically wonderful. This movie not only captures the essence of the old TV show, but the old comic as well. Christopher Lloyd steals this movie, which is hard to do when you see the chemistry between Raul Julia and Angelica Houston.

That creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky family is back in this lavish reincarnation of the popular TV show. The casting is perfect -- Ricci *is* Wednesday -- and there are impressive settings and great FX to bring the walking hand "Thing" to life but this is more of a series of vignettes than a real movie. The school play scene probably spills more blood than in any Paramount release since the first _Friday the 13th_.

The skeletal plot serves as an adequate frame for a series of gags ranging from the cute to the creaky to the legitimately sick and surreal. The expected high-tech FX help expand the slapstick possibilities, allowing hyper living hand "Thing" to enjoy a more active role, while the elaborate, imaginative sets, especially the Addams manse's full-blown basement sea, contribute a major visual plus.

Allllmost good. The characters look great and the casting for the family is spot-on. Wish they'd went with a different storyline, because this one causes the film to start off real rough, and ultimately end up just 'okay'. I definitely warmed up to it after the first half hour, even if it did at times seem like a collection of cartoon sketches rather than a full-on movie adaptation.

A classic of course, but it's just not as good as I had remembered it to be. Apart from the things that are now clichés (and rightly so!), most of the film dwells between the boring and the mediocre. Funny to see again, but really enjoyable? No...

The Addams Family is a wonderful piece of nostalgia. As a 90's kid, I grew up with a healthy dose of old TV in my house. I used to watch the original Addams Family TV show with my father after school. I am sure this is why we got so many of these remakes when I was a kid. The cast of this movie makes this movie really shine in my opinion. This movie made a generation of people love Christina Ricci, she taught us that it was okay to be a goth. Lloyd, Julia, Huston, etc. The cast is awesome!

Basically just a parade of (generally corny) mawkish gags, but some of them do land, and the gusto with which the film was directed and performed is extremely admirable. Acceptably diverting.

The plot and jokes aren't outstanding but the film is enjoyable due to charming performances by the entire cast and a lot of fun setpieces. Christopher Lloyd's Uncle Fester is a particular stand out, whose shift between straight man to kooky madman is fun to watch.

A definite classic. It's not without its flaws, but goddamn, the portrayal of people whose sense of good and bad is at odds with the society around them, and seeing them flourish and be happy and overcome the pressures put on them by said society - that's something that was really important to all the queer kids, trans kids, neurodivergent kids, and a lot of others. Hell yeah. (Plus, *amazing* casting.)

I hadn't seen this in ages, and I didn't think much of it back then. To my surprise, my opinion remained pretty much the same. Visually it looks good, the look of the characters is spot on and the actors do a fine job, but the plot is just not interesting and it's more of a collection of gags and vignettes. It's all perfectly serviceable, but very disposable, and it's surprising how well liked this film seems to be.

One of those movies you go back to and ultimately wonder what drew you to it in the first place. Has it's moments, to be sure, but a lot of the movie tries too hard to be funny and feels forced at times. I don't know. Still, Thing ruled. And Ricci? Really? Worth looking into for those two reasons, I guess.
