It's...a kid's movie. A very mediocre kids movie. Nothing else needs to be said about it.

Sanitized and popularized version of the classic Mark Twain novel. Surprisingly watchable given director Steven Sommers' (The Mummy, Van Helsing) track record.

It's been over twenty years since I've read the novel that this film is based on, so my memory of it is a bit sketchy, but this film adaptation is extremely entertaining, faithfulness to the source material or not. Some serious subjects are handled without being overly sentimental, and the star-studded cast doesn't burden the film, as is so often the case.

This is the movie that made me love adventure! One of the first movies I ever really loved.
