The After Party

I'll admit that as a film, this could be a whole lot better. The movie does just feel like a string of events strung together by a simple narrative, sprinkle in some rap sequences and cameos and BOOM...you checked off the boxes you need to do, and that's exactly what this feels like. I check box. It's fine for what it is, but being someone who loves and hates so much of rap, I feel disappointed. Especially because there is talent here, but it's buried behind so much stuff, like the genre

The one entertaining scene is what ends up being a tired joke for the rest of the film

Not bad. If you are a fan of hip hop you might enjoy this.

The After Party is a movie that barely has a plot, follows a couple of lackluster-at-best characters, and tries to impart lessons on its audience that it doesn't feel like showing us. It has a few good rapping sequences, and all of the hip-hop references and cameos will delight fans of the genre, but as a movie it can't be called much of a success.
