Comedy

The film begins with exposition as a lunatic asylum "mad scientist" ex-Nazi played by Amamoto Eisei discusses how a massive diamond was lost and a young Japanese has it in his possession. A league of assassins make comedic attempts at Nakadai's life which are all thwarted, naturally, since even playing a little bit of a "dweeb", Nakadai is still graced with luck and a certain charisma. Turns out the diamond is a stolen Nazi item which was placed in Nakadai's body when he was eight. (imdb)

I wanted to boost this but can't. Posted as a madcap adventure ALA early Bond, I can see where the inference comes from but it just didn't have that touch of class, nor was it so outrageous as to be hilarious - again there are touches but it overall just doesn't reach the ROFL level. Well made and acted with some nice sets plus some silliness smiles - starts really well (if a touch laboured) but then fades. Is well mentioned in some reviews so YMMV (added on edit:) Elevated on a rewatch.
