Arguably one of the bravest and craziest films ever made. Brügger is part Borat, part Erroll Morris.

It's not a bad documentary, but it's messy and without a clear ambition or destination. Which becomes extremely clear during the unsatisfactory last 10 minutes. Visually, I think Winthereik has added a special something to the film, and of course Brügger has that special humor and nerve that he's known for in Denmark.

Highly entertaining and informative, if a bit one sided view of corruption in Africa.

Agreeing to fund this film is like the CIA agreeing to pay the Cartel for a couple kilo's of coke a few times before the big sting. Yes, you can say Brugger has balls, which is he does. But he had a plan, that worked. That has worked 2500 times previously. With his live satire, he experiences first hand why Africa is currently a doomed continent. Even when his criminal plan seemed to fall apart, it was because the CAR's corruption appeared to swallow him whole. The whale sequence was grand.

The Red Chapel's fascinations come from the tensions between Brügger's mad method and Jacob's moral center. Missing here.

Pure madness. Mads Brügger plays the role of the sociopathic diplomat perfectly, but the documentary lacks focus, which is of course understandable given the circumstances. I found odd how the film passes the diamond cartel without a single comment, given how much they dabble with the things.

Visual proof that money can buy you anything, and that democracy, law and order still has a long way to go in Africa - well, we kinda knew that already. But, more importantly, Brügger depicts and describes the people involved as well as their methods in a thorough, deeply fascinating and original way, equally balancing moments of tragical horror with first class black humour.

This documentary is madness, it's all very very real and it's sort of an experiment on how far can a man go to the chain of corruption (putting himself in real danger) and also see how far behind are some places in Africa from a republican culture. From a technical point of view is far from perfect, but the editing is well done and also that is not the important stuff. I won't be buying diamonds after seeing this movie.

Whether or not it is all true, many good scenes makes for an entertaining film which is made with a sense of humor.

Not exactly in-depth in any way. Still, the suspense and the increasing paranoia is truly captivating.

Okay ... I don't really understand the point of this film. I understand that it establishes that ... surprise ... this extremely poor and almost lawless country is very very corrupt, but Brügger establishes all this before he even gets to Africa, so the film just lets this play out in a fairly predictable manner.

After his jaunt to North Korea in THE RED CHAPEL, Mads Brugger goes way, way farther here: obtaining fake diplomatic credentials from incredibly shady sources, posing as a Liberian envoy to the Central African Republic who seeks to open up a match factory, making deals with a blood diamond dealer--and that's not the whole story. Often hilarious (Brugger in jodhpurs dancing with a group of drunken Pygmies), tragic, frightening, and never less than gripping. Sacha Baron Cohen, eat your heart out.

Wow, this guy has (lucky) balls of steel (diamonds maybe?). Crazy stuff. An absolute must see.

I was pleased with setup, mainly, it's so far out it somehow becomes unbelievable. But it's real, and Brügger is a testament to that. A very believable performance. I particularly enjoyed his many speeches.

Yet another self-important documentary maker sticks himself in front of the camera to expose himself more than whatever he's supposed to be illuminating. The style is messy and lacking in much needed editing and Mads Brugger just irritates me
