Any film willing to cut away from a car chase to show James Earl Jones chew gum is alright in my book. If you're in the mood for an uncomfortable Kafka-esque thrill ride where eccentric characters wander through absurd situations...then watch "After Hours" instead. But, if you're in the mood to watch James Earl Jones chew gum, then "Ambulance" wins hands down.

Good early 90's late night cable tv filler, featuring some surprisingly good acting (from Red Buttons and James Earl Jones it's practically expected, but Eric Roberts actually puts in some good work for once). Creepy and atmospheric at times (the sickly green lighting in the hospital scenes). Not a total waste of time.

A bizarre movie orgy that delivers a truly original experience. It starts out as a romcom about a stalker, then it becomes a police story, slowly folds into a horror about a killing machine and it gets to a point that all those genres are colliding in the same scene. The main guy is a comic book artist that has Stan Lee himself for an editor, the ambulance picks up only diabetic people to cure and then kill them, Earl dies chewing gum, Elias fights a guy with this dump can. What a ride.

It's been awhile, but this ambulance film isn't really worth chasing (see what I did there)?

Supposedly Travolta was Cohen's first choice for the lead, and he would have been preferable to Roberts, who isn't as hammy as usual but definitely can't carry a film. This absurdist black comic thriller isn't remotely concerned with credibility and creates a world of its own. The problem is that Cohen runs out of ideas by the halfway mark, so the gimmicky nature of the premise/world becomes distracting, and the main villain is weak.

Stand up flick with some memorable names, a fun story and it's just all around entertaining, hell, there's even a laugh or two peppered in for good measure. I can't justify calling this a horror movie, but sure you can call it a thriller. When I saw "The Stuff" I thought it was a fluke, but Larry Cohen has a gift for turning cheese into gold.

Some really impressive stunts can't save a film that doesn't work.

Not up to some of Larry's other horrors -- the basic premise is too muddled -- but there is some good acting, especially Buttons -- Buttons! -- as a sleazy tabloid reporter.
