This tries to be visually imaginative by shooting the Mars sequences in "Cinemagic" (the footage is printed in negative and then tinted red), giving the movie a unique look but also producing a serious case of eye strain in the viewer. Still, this has enough nice little touches and solid acting to make it worth watching in small doses.

MSTK style fodder that is quite possibly one of the worst movies ever made. Featuring FX that is beyond horrible, it manages to not only be incredibly boring but also terrible even by B-movie, low grade standards. This is one of the few films that deserves to be burried in one of those gigantic trash heaps, or locked in an old time vault deep in a Hollywood studio's basement.

The Crab-Bat is kinda cool, but holy shit is this dull. Just listen to Walk Among Us by the Misfits and look at the cover for a far more entertaining experience. It's probably the only reason you'd ever be interested in this in the first place.

I wish I could have liked this one more if not for the creature alone. Unimaginative all around, especially with the special effects (excepting the monster), set design, and script. I suppose we're supposed to think O'Bannion is charming since he calls the female scientist "Irish" throughout the film (when her name is "Iris"), but I just found that grating by, oh, the first time he did it. Sadly, and this is a spoiler, he makes it through the film. If only the audience could.

This movie is of the crew-lands-on-alien-planet-and-start-getting-eaten-by-the-local-fauna variety of sci-fi complete with dumb looking monsters, here shown in a garish red light. Pretty cliché, down to the Colonel with no sense of personal space and/or professional conduct in a workplace. "When I call you by your first name, you'll know it." What the hell does that even mean?! The only nice surprise was Iris growing as a character and ending up saving the day.

Stupid on several levels, but that's half the fun. When it isn't getting bogged down by expository dialogue, it's painting the screen with uniquely dated effects. Budget and time constraints bore the gimmick "cinemagic". It was considered by some critics to be a failure in effects at the time, but it does give an otherwise unremarkable film a unique aesthetic edge. Sadly, the good stuff is spread thin, and the editing and acting is far too lackadaisical to convey any sense of drama or urgency.
