The Animal Kingdom

Drawing-room drama that sees Leslie Howard caught having to choose between his integrity and his familial duty. Of course, in patriarchal 1932 these choices are represented by women vying for his heart and soul. (NB - Neither the summary here nor the one on Amazon Prime quite accurately portray the story)

A fairly dull love drama as Leslie Howard is caught between his affection for his long time friend/lover Ann Harding and new love Myrna Loy. The story has got some moving elements, but is for the most part uninteresting so no wonder it failed at the box office. I just feel the acting isn't up to the level it should be. Howard is okay, but the ladies come across very wooden. William Gargan as the drunken butler didn't work all that well either even if one got some comic moments from it.
