A Maltese Falconesque detectiving noir with some double crossing from a varied cast of criminals chasing the titular object. It's trimmed to the bone, which makes it fast paced but lacking depth and there's little that stands out except maybe Marjorie Lord's femme fatale. It's still fun though.

Typical B-mystery that William Gargan typically saves in his own typical style. He's done this with so many films like this over the years, giving personality to low priority pictures that script-wise doesn't have much. The Argyle Secrets (1948) was one of those pictures. Easy going cliche sprinkled mystery, and Gargan knew exactly what to do to make 'em enjoyable.
