Moments of charm are undermined by the stupidity of the bookending and self-referencing Reitherman inexplicably felt was appropriate. The Siamese cat comes way out of left field - he plays the piano with chopsticks, for God's sake! And is it just me, or is Duchess a whore? She flirts with a tramp-y alley cat in front of her children (who are all different colors; different fathers?). 'Baloo Cat' will ditch you at the next ho who comes his way, Duchess.

One of the worst Disney films in all creation. Man, I really wish the butler got away with it. If you look at it from his point of view, he did get passed up by a bunch of cats, and instead of doing the sensible thing and killing the lot of them, he had enough of a heart to release them into the wild. Fucking cats are evil.

A beloved movie from 1970 Disney productions. I just think this movie is incredibly cute. The kittens are just the best. This movie never fails to make me smile. I also think the music is just really great. Everybody Wants to Be a Cat and the Thomas O'Malley are both really great songs. I also like that the Butler did it! There are also some great minor characters like the Geese and the two dogs that like to attack anything on tires. Just a great classic Disney film that stays in my heart.

The music makes it likable, but watching it as an adult, there are definitely some weird race, class, and sex undertones going on that weird me out, and the whole thing feels a bit like a cheaper cat version of Lady and the Tramp.

The songs "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" and (to a lesser degree) "Thomas O'Malley" are rightfully classics, and feel like they belong to a much more charming movie. There's also a bizarre running gag with an alcoholic duck (goose?) named Uncle Waldo that's entertaining in its randomness. Unfortunately, that's where the list of things this movie has going for it ends.

The style of the drawings is a perfect match for Paris. It is quite an elegant animation; with beautiful musical pieces. Also it is before the era of Disney formula "Hit the high notes, crank up the emotion, then resolve" so it is a calmer movie (so it is better for younger kids).

I was expecting the cats to fall on serious hardship in order to learn a couple of life lessons about social class and prejudice through an epic and exciting quest. Instead they just walk home, leaving all interesting things to a bunch of silly dogs and a random drunk goose. I was also cheering for the Butler, come on, why should I be caring for a rich old cat-lady and a highbrow horny cat?

Top badass moment? What was Disney thinking? A spoilt hussy with 3 kids gets herself and her family into trouble and uses her body to dupe a decent guy into helping them. The godless trollop then dumps him the moment she gets home! Then she neglects her kids and coerces another guy into a really dangerous situation with a bunch of racial stereotypes, to get the sucker to help again, who’s then almost killed with a pitchfork. Appalling. (At least) 25 cats, no chainsaws or decapitations.

There's some decent comfy charm in this movie that goes especially well with nostalgia. I quite liked the jazzy music and hand drawn visuals and the fact that there isn't much focus on conflict. That said the plot and characters are really thin and generic (almost to self aware and absurd degree).

From the bygone era where racial stereotyping in Disney film was rife, the plot serves as no more than a string to hang songs off and offers very little more. That and bad grammar.

Another Disney film without the coveted Disney magic and charm. The characters in this are rather bland, and the animation is rather poor considering the timeslot when it came out. It has a couple of memorable songs, but apart from that, it's rather forgettable.

Good music, and a couple of funny scenes (tellingly, usually involving dogs). But the plot is paperthin even by Disney standards, the characters are reused from better films, the title characters are unbearably precious, and they only get to 75 minutes by copypasting a few scenes over and over. I cheered for the butler.

If I'm being completely honest, this was my favorite Disney film pre-Disney/Pixar era. In my young infantile mind I kinda related Tom O'Malley, as the bad-boy rouge with a heart of gold, with the likes of Han Solo. While the connection is tenuous at best and doesn't translate very well now, what can I saw, I was a youngun.

I love the animation style and the villain that isn't super evil but more like regular guy. Unfortunately the story is kinda boring. As a sidenote the alley cat gang portays a wide range of racist stereotypes that you couldn't see in modern films.

Mistake - 1) In one scene O'Malley's tail tip changes from white to orange and to white again. 2) During the song "Thomas O'Malley", when Thomas is on a branch of a tree and shakes the branch so petals fall onto the floor and Duchess, the number of petals on the floor slowly increases, but in one shot, several petals suddenly appear, and they didn't fall from the tree.

Crappy, scratchy animation that is completely distracting. Terrible score. Derivative plot that is basically just Lady & The Tramp plus 101 Dalmations, but with cats! And worst of all, there's an inexplicable Asian stereotype for the Siamese cat, and this was 1970 for pete's sake!

A lazily written adventure plot here is boosted by its three-fold setting (an elegant mansion, the rustic countryside, and a ramshackle city house) and bevy of charming characters, from piano-playing kittens to simpleton farm dogs to a gaggle of giggling geese. Throw in a devious butler, a heroic tomcat, and a rag-tag group of jazzy alley-cats and you have the ingredients for some hysterical slapstick, exciting escapades, and one particularly catchy tune ("Everybody wants to be a cat!").

(2014-15 Disneython #14:) Overall, I would have to rank this one relatively low on the Disney pantheon. Phil Harris' vocal performance as Thomas O'Malley the Alley Cat is charming, and the "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" song is a blast. But the really, REALLY rough animation is noticeable, the plot doesn't do much Lady in the Tramp didn't do better (and I say this as more of a cat lover than a dog lover), and the butler might quite possibly be the worst Disney villain of all time.

I found boring as a kid, and it remains the dullest and weakest of the Disney classics. It has a weak villain, a dumb premise, there is no conflict; the upscale lady cat falls in love with the stray cat just cause opposite attracts (or maybe cause of his great cheesy pick up line; your eyes are like sapphires sparkling so bright), the posh cats learn nothing on their journey which is over in no time. I also don't get what a 60s hippie cat is doing playing in a 1910s Paris jazz band?

This is one of the least memorable Disney films: the animation is no better than alright for the time (with many older films exceeding its quality), the showtunes feel bland, and the characters are one-dimensional at best. At least The AristoCats goes down easy and has many of the same qualities of other Disney films, just in lesser quantity.

There are a few things I liked about The AristoCats, such as its appreciation of classical music, a few of the musical numbers...and that's about it. The animation is subpar, most of the characters are annoying and it has a lacklustre plot. The film's moral seems to be that villains are hard working employees that snap and become greedy when they realise their entire lives are assumed to be to look after entitled cats. This film is a good argument for higher inheritance taxes.

Then a cat, superimposing the obscure life of its knowing and more conscious forms on this aquarium, the brilliance of its gaze fixed on the ray-fish, manoeuvres the velvet of its paws with slow haste over the unpraised oysters, revealing both the prudence of its character, the covetousness of its palate and the temerity of its undertaking. – Marcel Proust

Bland Disney entry is genial to a fault and a pleasant watch, but its lack of conflict or any sort of edge leaves it largely unmemorable; might have gotten a higher score but for the simplistic (and somewhat ugly) animation style, an unfortunately common stylistic choice by Disney during this period. A fun voice cast provides some compensation (you can’t fully hate any movie that features Crothers!)

I'm really glad that they brought back Phil Harris for this one and his jazz-hipster-via-Clark-Gable take on Thomas is one of the film's highlights. He has great chemistry with Eva Gabor (who I'm usually not fond of, but she's great here), and there's something surprisingly adult about their relationship in the film. I could do without the hick dogs, the geese and Sterling Holloway's mouse, but you know ... this film has some really fun songs and Scatman Crothers, so how can I really complain?
