In the fall of 1976, a small psychology lab in Pennsylvania became the unwitting home to the only government-confirmed case of possession. The U.S. military assumed control of the lab under orders of national security and, soon after, implemented measures aimed at weaponizing the entity. The details of the inexplicable events that occurred are being made public after remaining classified for nearly forty years. (imdb)

The 70's setting is neat and the documentary style works well enough, but once that settles in there's just too little creepy or original material to chew on. A lot of buildup, a lot of "..and that's when things really took a turn!" talking heads, but once Shit finally Gets Real in the underwhelming climax all I could do was shrug half-heartedly. To be fair, I was tied to a chair at the time while a priest was chanting loudly at me. Man, this was a weird weekend.

Really liked what they did here, an original take on the demonic possession story, & one of the better uses I've seen of "found footage", but it never lives up to its potential & builds up to an entirely underwhelming ending. Not a waste of time, though altogether the sort of film I'll probably forget I ever saw in a couple months.

At last, a film of this type tries something different. It weaves a very interesting mockumentary type story, it doesnt deliver many scares but simply an interesting creepy story.

More interesting then scary with a cool 1970s feel to it. The Atticus Institute (2015) tries to be a documentary, but can't stop being a horror film in the end. For me the execution was below par, but with some nice touches here and there making it seem like I'm not wasting my time.

Not really that "different", and certainly not scary, but also not quite as dreadful as previous Chris Sparling scripts.

Although this topic is widely used, Chris Sparling manages nevertheless to turn it into an original movie. Complete review here : http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/2015/03/the-atticus-institute-2015.html
