Anne-Laure Meury steals the show as Lucie who is stunningly, brilliantly, amazing and completely made the film for me. She was just so, so, so much fun to watch putting so much life in to the film. Rohmer's compassionate directing helps elicit our sympathies for the two other main characters, who could well have otherwise ended up annoying, and the film contains all the wonderful emotional insight that I've come to expect from Rohmer.

Pretty boring most of the time, but nevertheless, some peculiar kind of feeling does arouse, like an erection in the park or while riding a buss.

The film has a very naturalistic and organic feel, where the actors don't seem to be acting at all. Even the seemingly trivial moments are captivating and exciting. I was fully engrossed in the film from start to finish.

Rohmer creates yet another charming and lightly funny romp through relationships in Paris. The middle section of the film, where the protagonist and a young girl he meets on the bus come up with different ways to spy is the film's best section, but the mea culpa at the end also highlights Rohmer's penchant for poignant and introspective dialogue. It starts slow, but builds to a worthwhile conclusion.

ok, why is someone suggesting the weather forecast, then seeing it play out, so satisfying?

DVD Paris Filmes.

Final act is solid. The rest made me sympathise (just a little more) with my francophobe bae

Anne-Laure Meury is the ultimate MPDG in this... wait, she was 16?!... hey, it'd be legal in France, right?

The movie's characters aren't especially likable but they're intriguing none the less in their realism. Rohmer's gift for dialogue is in full force and he captures moods and feelings so well.

My new favorite of the Comedies and Proverbs, and possibly even the quintessential Rohmer film in that it manages to encapsulate so many of the themes that he addressed more singularly in other films. Along with The Green Ray, it's also his most resolutely naturalistic, which makes it very "relatable" and also means that the themes are more amorphous and presented less didactically than in some of his others. The only thing it lacks is the visual beauty of some of his other work.

A genuinely witty examination of the self-obsessed.

Charming and somewhat depressing film about finding and keeping love. The character Francois can't seem to catch a break in his life and emotionally clings to a woman he only has a casual relationship with. The woman (played by Marie Riviere) has her heart elsewhere and keeps him around because he's an emotional outlet for her and a good part time companion. The writing in it is typical Rohmer and as always has beautifully shot locations around Paris.
