Commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Indy Musician Sufjan Stevens combines original Orchestral Arrangements, Electronic Synthesizers and multiple different camera techniques in an attempt to create a non-narrative story and spiritual image of one of New York City's most-used yet most-maligned landmarks: the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. You can tell Sufjan was trying to make the next Koyannisqatsi, but as talented as he is, completely underestimated the complexity required. His music is okay, but moves very much towards a non-descript electronic drone by the end. Unfortunately the music is much better than the film. Sufjan's complete inexperience as a film director shows: Instead of the intended subtlety that made Koyaanisqatsi a classic, all that came out was monotony (I get it, there's tons of cars on the freeway, I know!)
