Its animation style is impressive, some characters are very appealing while others fall flat (3 of the crew's 5 chars are underdeveloped and 2-dimensional). Same with the story and who's-playing-who twists, some are well crafted, some are shoehorned in and don't hold the film up as well. Has some 'action movie syndrome' moments where reality is just ignored for looking cool. A few of its themes felt borrowed from Zootopia. But was it enjoyable? Yeah, funny and oddball. Still fairly solid!

This film opens by introducing every character as 'too cool for school' and it's painfully obvious they were trying and failing to mimic Clooney and Pitt in the Ocean's films. This was made worse when the main character then talks about 'Clooney-ing'. I'm sorry but here Sam Rockwell is no Clooney. The characters are smug, the world is bizarre (why are some people people, others animals, and some animals are animals?) and a herd of guinea pigs do not suddenly become a weapon of mass destruction

Loved the art style and initial presentation of the rag tag band of crooks. Storywise it did fall into the usual cliched tropes that most US kids' films seem to follow slavishly, but a fun family film none the less.

Very cartoony fun. A little rough around the edges, the dialogue/jokes leave something to be desired, but between the LOVELY animation style (seriously, kudos to the film for truly being a cartoon in the best ways) the fun character work and the film's penchant to do its own thing for better and worse, overall it's an enjoyable time. (To be fair I am a huge furry so my score's a little inflated.)

(Rewatch: still pretty cool. Chip and Dale nailed it with calling out how kids' animated movies always seem to have a rap scene.) A stylish animated film where the voice actors aren't overbearingly obvious. Lives up to what you expect and nothing more. The friendship/being nice theme feels a bit bolted-on at times, as with the requisite needle drops. Fav scene: singing and dancing at the professor's gala.

Wasn't expecting much from DreamWorks considering their last films were flops. But I was surprised by the animation and especially the score.

The zippy first half is a lot of fun, but the tiresomely boilerplate story dominates the finger-drumming back half. Still probably Dreamworks’ best movie since pre-pandemic times.

Easily Dreamworks Animation’s best film.

Fantastic animation and lots of fun. Not really much else.

It would have worked better if they developed the characters more. The rest of the crew goes from funny clichés alright enough to make one curious, to suddenly losing relevance and becoming quite generic about halfway through the movie. The plot goes up and down maybe a few too many times, but I guess kids will like it anyway. Personally, I found the wolf and fox designs, some of the humans, and the overall visual style pleasant and fresh.

This was just a lot of simple fun. Great cast and their voices just suit these characters so well. Doesn't really entirely grab you right in the first minutes, but once it gets going, it's funny with a sweet story. That fox has some ninja moves.

It was a hit with the kids, but "The Bad Guys" is a far cry from possessing any real lasting power and it is certainly not going to be a classic in twenty years. Just another movie to put on to get your kids to shut up for a little while, probably not that long, though.

The Bad Guys' theme of personal responsibility is surprisingly well-written (especially considering the history of moral lessons in kids films), even if the plot follows very familiar heist beats. The animation style is reminiscent of Zootopia, and is good though nothing really stands out. The humour is decent with a fair bit of self-awareness without breaking the 4th wall; the Clooney joke got me. The voice acting is good. Entertaining, amusing, but not ground-breaking.

Best Furry movie of 2022? Surprisingly decent by recent DreamWorks standards, stylish animation and a good Ocean’s Eleven-esque/heist family friendly tone to it. Got a good set of characters, action, quirkiness, humour, and heart to it. Perhaps the film is a little predictable, but it stays engaging so I don’t think it’s too much of a problem. Seemed to be well liked by both kids and adults.

Aight. Doesn't really feel like a Dreamworks production (neither pre or post Shrek), which you might find either a pro or a con. It's... different.

Rather bland and and uninspired, if very nicely animated and certainly not without some merits. The characters and narrative hit every expected beat without fail. It always bugs me when the created worlds logic makes no sense, and this film is certainly that.

When the opening scene of your family movie reminds me of that of Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs, you've already got me on your side. (That statement has ensured that people will always stay away from me)

There's some snarky humor here to keep adults interested and some clever moments, but this often feels like a less inventive Zootopia knock-off, as far as humanoid animated animal films go. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't transcendent.

"The Bad Guys" is a ton of fun with a great cast, fast-paced editing, and scenes that will remind you of your favorite heist films. The film may not be as elevated in animation style as some other Dreamworks films, but it's an animated feature that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Nowadays, an animation rarely impresses me and this one was especially mediocre.

The animation is the star here. Good voicework, and humor. The plot was ho-hum. My seven year old twins each successfully made predictions on where things were going.

Mediocre, clichéd, predictable piece of fluff that brings absolutely nothing of interest to the table. I suppose the animation can be nice-ish sometimes, and I laughed like once or twice.
