Tightly wound little heist flick where the cause and effect of the robbery is more important than the heist itself. This was a much different film than I had come in expecting, and the story continually raises the stakes with some very dark turns. One torture scene is particularly brutal. The acting is solid (yes, even from Statham) and Saffron Burrows is even sexier today than she was circa Deep Blue Sea. A better movie could likely be made from this story, but this one's still quite good.

Not as suspenseful as it should have been cause I already knew the outcome, but I still enjoyed it. It also features one of the biggest jokes to mankind ever, Michael X. A phony, crook, poser and a giant douche, glad they painted him as such in the film. A few problems but overall an enjoyable heist film.

More crime drama than action (as I was expecting) this is actually quite a competent piece. It weaves a supposedly true tale of some small time criminals attempting to bank in on a excessive score, and getting in way over their heads. Jason Statham will never fail to impress me with his range as an actor, providing his character is British, and a criminal (or a cop from the future), he can pull it off like no other. All told, not a bad way to spend a couple hours.

Stars a bit chaotic, but that's just the beginning minutes, after that it's a well organised story about a little less organised robbery. Some nice plot twists, interesting characters and it's pretty exciting, also because you know: this happenned in real. Good film

While not a bad movie, The Bank Job suffers from not having a very interesting heist, a bunch of unnecessary characters, and nothing to say. It doesn't focus much on the caper in question, instead using it in order to have a reason for a generic storyline to play out involving double-crosses and groups trying to outsmart one another. Even if you really like heist movies, this one is ultimately a failure.

A highly enjoyable, brisk and unpretentious caper flick/dramatization of true events, "The Bank Job" feels like a good Guy Ritchie film, although there's no such thing. Directed with style and verve, smartly written and solidly acted, this is an old-school, exuberant thrill ride that gets the blood pumping. It successfully builds momentum, and although the ending is a bit of a let-down, this remains a perfectly pleasurable if disposable (and very British) heist thriller.

A really uneven movie with some major holes, but it still manages to be a lot of fun, especially in the well executed second half. Statham, as always, makes most anything watchable, and this is pretty decent to start with. The beginning is mismanaged and the multiple side plots don't gel together all that well, but I enjoyed it.

Jason Statham and Saffron Barrows head the cast of a magnificent bank robbery based on a true story. They tunnel into the vault and take millions in cash, jewels and gems along with incriminating criminal evidence and compromising photos of royals. The thieves get to keep all the loot provided the embarrassing evidence gets turned over to the government. What a sweet deal. Proof that sometimes small time criminals can hit it big. We won't know how accurate it was until 2054, LOL!

Pretty fun little movie with solid acting from Statham (although he doesn't beat people up in this really), and an intricate plot, but it feels like it could have and should have been more. The first half of the movie is the actual heist, which would normally be great stuff, but its a pretty low tech low stress job, and it seems to go off fine. What comes AFTER is the interesting part, and if more time had been spent on it, the movie would have been much better I think.

Although the plot leaves a lot of room for improvement and thrilling heist is not that exciting as there is very little threat to them. But you gotta love the movie for playing it straight with the viewer. So many heist movies in recent years have done their best to trick the viewer as well as the target, but in Bank Job it's all done in the classic heist style (even if not as well) of tediously showing the audience everything.

Statham manages to not wreck the film, which is a pleasant surprise. Still a lot of the writing is very weak, trying extremely hard to be witty or clever. The beginning is dull, middle is pretty good despite the heist plan being very uncreative, and ending just starts getting stupid. So it's a mixed bag; certainly not the best heist flick out there, but not one of the worst either.

Taken as a film, the Bank Job is too scattered to build up any real momentum. The perspective of the robbers is enough and the 70s period flavor adds great personality, but they cover the story from too many angles; you have the cops, corrupt politicians, a brothel owner, a model turned agent and, most confusingly, a gangster/civil rights activist who apparently pals around with John Lennon. It all seems convoluted, and at 2.5 hours, really excessive taking a historic fiction approach to Snatch.

It really picks up once the guys start tunneling their way to the intended vault, but it's not as tension-packed as it could be with these lesser-defined thieves and a slew of characters all over the board. The actual heist is fun, and the events following are exciting enough to warrant interest. "The Bank Job" doesn't hold up to the best of the genre, but you can never have too many robberies in Hollywood these days, especially with Jason Statham. It's based on a true story, and worth a look.

"The Bank Job" is the type of story that could have only taken place when it had. If any of these people had cell phones, many of the problems would be overcome quite easily. This isn't a knock on the film, just an observation. This film could easily be mistaken for a Guy Ritchie film. The characters redeem themselves as they're dirty people stealing from much dirtier people than themselves. The message here being that two wrongs make a right for these crooks.

A nice period heist film, and a good non-action role for Statham. Unusually, the heist itself isn't that complex - a fairly simple robbery carried out to humorous effect by a bunch of mostly incompetent amateurs. Where the film becomes interesting is post-heist as the ramifications start to hit home and tie various interconnected threads together, and things start to go wrong. Being based on a true story makes it more grounded than the usual Cockney caper films made by hacks like Guy Ritchie.

There's an interesting movie in here, but the casting of Statham betrays either a disinterest in exploring the better elements, or at least a willingness to compromise them to the point of their near-complete evaporation in the name of getting the film made. Where the film could have benefited from an actor, it got an action hero, and the flutters of depth in the script and the stretches when Donaldson's direction displays a sleek but gritty command can't overcome Statham's leaden presence.
