The Battle at Apache Pass

Western

Chandler plays temperate Indian leader Cochise, while Silverheels is the more explosive Geronimo. The film takes place several years before the events depicted in Broken Arrow, a time in which Cochise attempts to prevent war between his people and the white settlers. Though Cochise's wife dies at the hands of a bigoted cavalry officer and a crooked Indian agent, the stoic Native American continues to believe that a lasting peace is possible. (imdb)

This film treats the Apache more fairly than most, but white actors in redface still drive it.

Forgettable B-Western. Hampered somewhat by the lack of star power (especially in a cast as large as this). Most of the cavalry soldiers blur into one and much of the acting is a bit stodgy. The only character who stands out is Jack Elam's scheming gun-runner, but he isn't given much to do. The battle, when it finally comes, is hardly worth the wait.

Spun off of Broken Arrow (1950), we follow Cochise and Geronimo's beef with the white man. One that focuses more on the Native American side of things. Perhaps a little unspectacular at times, but it does provide the bitterness and a bloody battle for it's climax.
