In this tuneful and sentimental romance, a young architect from France falls in love with his employer's daughter. Unfortunately, she feels differently and marries another. The loss inspires him to quit his job and return to France where he becomes a wanderer. Eventually he encounters a beautiful gypsy and together they form a minstrel act. Maurice Chevalier taking a short stop-over in England after leaving Hollywood to return back to his home country France. And it's the same formula which made him a major star in America. Being the ultimate charmer, and singing songs in English with that very distinctive French accent. With him in this one he has fresh faced Margaret Lockwood and Desmond Tester. While The Beloved Vagabond doesn't match-up with his American work, it's still a bubbly carefree affair in which Chevalier shines.
