The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

Not unlike a Mel Brooks movie with all the best stuff taken out. It still passes the time, but not quite my cup of tea.

There's not much to this one, but Charles Durning tearing the house down with Sidestep is worth a look if nothing else.

Kind of charming, but only if you like Dolly. If you don't like Dolly, you sure as heck won't like this one.

I don't have anything to defend this... just one of my guilty pleasures. :))

The stage musical Burt Reynoldsized (and Dom DeLuisized). Dolly Parton is fine (despite doing a pointless and less good rendition of one of her best songs, "I Will Always Love You"), and Charles Durning prances onto the scene too late and too briefly to do much good, and Colin Higgins directed the whole deadly business with thought and care and no hope.

Miss Mona (Dolly Parton) runs the titular brothel, and Sheriff Ed Earl (Burt Reynolds) keeps an eye on the place--and Mona, too. A muckraker (Dom DeLuise) crusades to end their fun. Though based on a hit show, too many of the songs are forgettable, and Colin Higgins' bland direction doesn't help; only "Whoop and Stomp" and "Sidestep" provide the desired flair. Parton is bright and lively, but Reynolds phones it in and DeLuise has little to do. It's pleasantly, inoffensively bawdy, but no more.

I would die of dehydration. Dolly is a gem.

Easy-going.

hahaha. I don't even.

The premise of this movie is pretty cool, and I think they tackled some very important topics - I just kept losing focus on the movie from time to time. Something about it just didn't grab me. But I respect it, for what it is.
