The Birth of White Australia
An early Australian silent film depicting historical events on the Young district goldfields, then known as Lambing Flat. During the gold rush of 1861, tensions between Australian miners and immigrant Chinese led to rioting, with Chinese miners attacked and driven from the diggings. The film portrays these events as being the genesis - or birth - of the White Australia policy, a significant political issue of the day.

Oh boy, was the racism blatant in The Birth of White Australia (1928). Say what you will about The Birth of a Nation (1915), but at least it provided somewhat justified reaction, story wise, to what went down there. Here the message was basically just "We're British White Australia. Fuck off, Chinaman! This bit of the world belongs to us!", as they rounded them up. Well, they did exactly say "fuck off", but that's what they meant. Probable the most openly racist film I've seen on my journey.
