Another Browning/Chaney collaboration that attempts to explore the darker side of human psychology. Chaney's facial expressions are brilliant, and the duality of his character is not without complexity, despite his initial appearance as 'type'. The 'twist', which some have complained about, is knowingly silly and darkly humourous and serves as a raw distillation of Browning's fascination with the 'other' and their inability to function according to social norms when desire consumes.
