The Black Sleep

A decidedly muddled witches' brew. Akim's a lot of fun here, and he more or less steals the show right out from under the towering nose of Rathbone's resolutely sonorous and hell-bent character. The finale gets downright goofy, as seemingly everyone from the Hall of Fame for these kinds of things checks in for an appearance. Meanwhile Our Hero and The Fair Lady duly begin their courtship (oh well...at least they'll always have a great story to tell about the way they met).

This star studded spooky sci-fi/horror affair makes for a watchable enough 50's "mad scientist" movie. With names likes Lon Chaney Jr., John Carradine, Bela Lugosi, and of course, Tor Johnson, you might expect the movie to be full blown monster mash madness. However, although the movie climaxes with some "monsters" running amuck through the house, for the most part, it's just a solid "mad scientist" story. Still, the movie should make for a decent enough watch for old school genre fans.
