John Ford's first talkie! The dialogue acting is naturally it's weakness, but Ford still maintains the stunning photography of the silent days and that bit make sure this is a damn good movie! Victor McLaglen looks in shape as the hero and Myrna Loy is the exotic beauty he must eliminate. And in typical early sound film fashion, this was filled with song. That often makes a movie awkward in this period, but here Ford uses the songs in a excellent manner to capture the vibes of the scenes!

Beautiful looking near-musical. Got that strange and lovely wandering style '30s Ford had.

While all the dialogue was added later, this being made on the edge of sound pictures, the action sequences are wonderfully done--lighting, staging, and symmetry throughout. Not only that, but the film has a nice point-counterpoint structure as it compares the Scots with the Pashtuns. Excellent film, with a significant caveat for the dialogue.
