"Now let's see who's really been killing all those people." *reveal* "The Blob?!?" "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids, and that dog!" My PSI was way low on this one. I love the incredible 50s creature feature cheesiness that pervades the entire work.

One of the great underrated films of all time. I love the fact that this unfolds completely at night, mostly outdoors and practically in real time. It also has, when you think about it, one of the best depictions of an alien life form ever put on film. What could get further away from a drooling, anthropomorphized creature than a crawling, pitiless blob? Superb!

I love these kinds of movies, and I think "The Blob" is above average for that type. I found it genuinely scary in many places, tense and dramatic in others.

Hearkens back to a simpler time in American history. When greasers in their mid-thirties still referred to each other as "kids" and were constantly being harassed by the police (also in their mid-thirties) who they still called "daddy-o". Into this peaceful slice of Americana, comes a nameless horror bent on the destruction of anyone that stands in its way. An unspeakable horror we call...Steve McQueen. "Beware of McQueen!"

This must've been one of the first horror movies I've ever seen and I still vividly remember most scenes. The Blob is a classic flick that (naturally) cannot measure up in today's age. It's still kinda endearing and corny enough to elicit a few good chuckles, and if you have the chance, I recommend a double feature with the awesome, gross-out 80s remake.

This film is incredibly 50s-esque, and I can see why it's a cult classic. I wish they had a bit more plot, because even at its short running time, not a whole lot actually happens. Still, the effects are pretty neat sometimes, and Burt Bacharach's theme song is awesome. It's also cool to see Steve McQueen in an early role, even if he doesn't look anything like the teenager he's supposed to be. It's very silly and cheesy, and fun because of that, but I wouldn't really call it a good film.

Silly little '50s horror film about strawberry jam that kills people. Kind of panders to teenagers without actually casting any of them, by positioning the kids as being the only voices of reason when surrounded by skeptical adults. Steve McQueen looks every one of his 28 (at the time) years, which complicates him playing a teenager. Accidentally becomes relevant for modern times with the last line. Still, it's cheap and silly, valuable only for the kitsch.

Perhaps the archetypal monster B-movie: the titular Blob runs amok in a small town, consuming people lock, stock, and barrel. A very simple story which gets a bit repetitive at times (especially in the middle), but it reaches a fine pitch by the climax. The slightly satirical edge helps, as does Irvin Yeaworth's direction. The acting is adequate, if stiff (even Steve McQueen's); the special effects are a mixed bag. In any case, the great title song by Burt Bacharach is the best part of it.

Sometime an amorphous blob is the scariest of all monsters as onto it can be projected our deepest insecurities and fears. In this case, the blob seems to represent America's Cold War anxieties, more specifically the threat posed by the Red Menace. The special effects used to bring this blob to life are implemented with restraint and consideration, resulting in a genuinely scary (as opposed to lame) blob monster. The audience fleeing the cinema is the perfect image of Cold War hysteria.

Dear God, what a masterpiece of camp. Like Forbidden Planet (the poster of which shows up here), history remembers this as just another corny B-movie, but it has a sense of fun and colorful (albeit extremely cheesy) aesthetic that rises above its brethren. The climax looks incredibly fake in that endearing way. Much like the accidental discovery of the blob's weakness, this film serendipitously teaches us by what it has that we lack: the value of community... and an actually-cold Arctic region.

The Blob is an important movie in the history of film canon but it doesn't really hold up. The story was boring. I was a lot more interested in what was being served in the movie instead of what was being said. The theme of adolescent rebellion and community views, mixed with the obvious message that delinquency really isn't that big of an issue because most kids are good at heart. Steve McQueen's character was unappealing but, once again, I was just interested in this as a piece of hist

The primary focus on the mystery-solving "teenagers" instead of the monster is unfortunate, but the monster moments are hilarious and, to my surprise, oddly cinematic. Works wonderfully if re-interpreted as a satire of 50s Americana, even if that's clearly not the intention. Note: I put teenagers in quotes because they're mostly played by 30 year old men, which makes things kinda weird. Steve McQueen was 27 during filming.

The teens being ignored by the police because they're just silly teenagers with their practical jokes and whatnot is played above and beyond breaking point to the extent that you end up almost screaming at the TV. The film is extremely cheesy without being desperately fun but instead mostly being quite annoying. There are a few entertaining bits and the blob slipping under doors and sliding through gratings is very cool but for the most part it is just very dull.

This is a fun and thrilling science fiction story that was seriously told. The serious tone and the earnest portrayal by Steve McQueen raise the film above its B-Movie roots and makes this a classic.

The Blob stars a pre-fame McQueen as quite possibly the oldest looking teenager on film, which is distracting even in a movie that isn't aiming for realism. When broken down to its constituent parts it really isn't good, but somehow it works, mostly due to a strong use of color, appealingly primitive effects and great period atmosphere. The acting is mediocre though and the plot could have been better developed. Overall, it's a charming time capsule that's worth a look for fans of the genre.

It's one of the numerous ludicrous monster movies that may have once caused quite a terror among it's audience, but today's movie goers will find it cheesy, kitschy, and subsequently to a degree that is utterly humorous. McQueen is a waste of screen time and even standing as one of the most widely remembered monster movies out of the era, your time would be better spent elsewhere.

A little old, a little corny, but such good background characters! The policemen, the parents, the garage man, the bar tender... I loved how characters with a minute of screen time or less seemed as well developed (or better) than the major ones. Not what one expects from a "horror" movie, but it was a plesant surprise. My complaints would be that the climax music is sad, not tense, and that the romantic scenes are not at all natural.

Fifties camp classic. Not as good as you'd like it to be, with a slow pace and a stilted supporting cast, but that one-of-a-kind monster and catchy Burt Bacharach theme make it a watchable neo-classic of its era.

Clearly a key piece for people who get a kick out of this type of thing, and I can see some of the appeal. The special effects are fun, and it's got a great title sequence and song, but these elements simply aren't present enough to outweigh the hokey dialogue and performances. Ironic enjoyment of cheap and cheesy old sci-fi flicks isn't really my wheelhouse.

A true 50s classic. It's a simple movie with camp appeal but is elevated to something greater with Steve McQueen's performance, who is both fun and natural. It is probably the originator of the trope where kids spend most of the movie trying to convince the adults of a danger in the town. It's a great time from beginning to end.

Mostly enjoyable 50s creature feature. The acting is poor -- the Blob itself seems to be the only rounded character (heh) -- and the plot is exasperatingly simple. There's a certain charm to the teenagers trying to make the adults believe them, especially since they're not sure they believe it themselves.

Steve McQueen is very good in his first starring role. While the subject matter is plainly "cheesy" the film has a moody quality helped by a limited palette and colored lighting. The blob itself is very cool, raspberry-colored with a crystalline sheen that gives a sac-like appearance as opposed to mere goo, though they never really can make it look like it moves under its own power. The theme song is fantastic as well.

It's no masterpiece, but for a late-50's B-movie it's still shockingly watchable. For as cheesy as it is, it actually has moments of really great comedy and is more clever & coherent than it looks on paper. A timeless horror flick whose influence on the genre cannot be overstated, and one that pretty much anybody will have heard of even if they've never seen a minute of it.

Gets fun towards the end but while there's no point criticizing the acting in a monster movie (apparently Steve(n) McQueen's charisma didn't appear until he lost the 'N') of this type there really is no forgiving the slow and plodding nature of the first hour. Not worthless, but there's a couple of dozen other movies of the same type you should watch before this one.

This is a film that scared me when I was little (I always imagined the Blob creeping up the stairwell and into my room while I was lying in bed at night), although I watched it often . Viewing it recently I realized how little blob action there is, but it's still unique and enjoyable. The theme song is the greatest!
