The Blood Beast Terror

Must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

As a fan of Hammer-style films, this was a welcome relief after some slowly paced Val Lewton melodramas posing as horror. This at least delivers a genuine monster & a mystery at first. So, I'm grading on a curve. But the problem is that the mystery is guessed early on & the full reveal just makes things absurd: the characters are far more obsessed w/ the moth being giant & not that it turns into a human. The running time's also padded to 90 mins w/ a play w/in a play & "comic relief" coroner

Got a bit diffuse in the second half...and the monster itself definitely wasn't their strong suit. But there was quite a bit of fun to be had in this one anyway--especially with the ghoulish morgue attendant.

About as good as you'd expect from a movie called The Blood Beast Terror. The monster in this is funny, though. It's only on screen for a few seconds at a time, but it looks like it was made with cotton wool, pipe cleaners, black spray-paint and a Blue Peter fact-sheet. Worth watching for the laughs, but not much else.
