An overall satisfactory experience, uncomplicated in its plot and characters. The most totally blithe of Thrillers, never before have I seen a supposed thriller be so tame and seemingly mostly good-natured. It's a bit weak in places, where you're mostly waiting for the story of Dirk Bogardes character to proceed. Clunky line delivery is sporadic enough to be forgiven, and in general the acting is relatively adequate.

Not bad, but the incessant Britishness is rather tiresome. Bogarde as a criminal has some great scenes, but he's not in this as much as I'd like, with most of the screentime devoted to the bland policemen. Picks up towards the end, but it doesn't fully make up for how mediocre most of it is. There's also this whole "criminals used to be respectable chaps, not like these reckless hooligans of today" nostalgia for a simpler rosier time underlying the whole film that put me off a bit.

A good film but seems a little dated even for it's time. The style is intriguing and the acting decent throughout.

A very British cop story. The crime angle could have been done in a more interesting way, but just the ordinary day of a cop stuff was what made The Blue Lamp (1950) enjoyable.
