Les Blank has shown me the beauty of life. All I ever wanted was for someone to show me the beauty of life.

I was sold a few seconds into the opening credits. Presents the raw uninhibited beauty of blues in an everyday atmosphere rarely distilled so purely on record yet essential to its spirit. Lightnin' was among the all-time coolest bluesmen & Les Blank is a hero for capturing this. The only negative is that there's not enough of it. If the title is a reference to Pasolini's Jesus film then I'm totally okay with that.

Nice time capsule that highlights not only a great bluesman, but a piece of Americana as well. Just enough to whet your appetite for more.

A perfect union really. Blank captures a bit of Lightnin's character and philosophy, and is a unique document of town life. It's only good shit, but I feel that I've seen better performances from Lightnin', this document failing to represent his peak. Totally recommended either way.
