The Boss of Big Town

A capable bunch of established character actors run a bit unenthusiastically through a quick budgeter, as a murderous racket pushes the price of produce up a couple pennies (given the year, they toss in a line or two of "Think of the war effort!"). The script informs that John Litel is a witty and charming leading market official for the purposes of this picture, though I think he had more fun with the kid. His girlfriend wears the properly massive hats befitting a girl reporter in this year.

The Boss of Big Town (1942) is for the most part dull. Has a set of solid actors, but this wasn't the type of production where they were going to shine much. At least it wasn't terrible.
