I love Merchant Ivory films. This one spent way too much time without much movement until the end, though---not even much in the way of a subtlety. None of the characters were particularly flawless with Reeve being especially unsympathetic. That said, it does build up to quite a pungent ending. Good acting. Fav scene: anytime they're by the beach dressed in white.
