Among the most aggressively awful summer tentpole releases of the last ten years. A soulless, shapeless, sluggish lump of nothing. Arguably a new high watermark for "they should have quit while they were ahead." The Phantom Menace, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Spider-Man 3, the Matrix sequels, whatever you think the worst Bond movie is (I'd personally go with either Diamonds Are Forever or The World Is Not Enough) - they all look like masterworks next to this astonishing, dreadful bore.

It's almost avant-garde in the way it just throws you into the movie and expects you to understand all the pseudo-science jargon and conspiracy plot points they throw at you, and then jumps from scene to scene with no transition. Eventually I figured out that it's about a super soldier who teams up with a doctor so he can get drugs while the CIA is trying to kill them. There's the whole movie, a wolf blows up, good times.

First half of the movie drags like crazy, and there's little payoff as the plot is much simpler even than the prior films' and the characters are cutouts. The second half picks up with some effective action sequences before skidding to a halt with a non-ending. Even if this is just a "part one" for a new trilogy, Legacy brings nothing new or even all that interesting to the series.

People's expectations were too high for this one. It's not that bad. Granted, they are clearly trying to suck more money based on the name of one of the greatest trilogies of all time. That said, I was pretty entertained. True, the plot was pretty stupid but I will never not enjoy one guy beating the shit out of groups of people single handedly. It's just a difficult thing to fuck up. Jeremy Renner is a great action star

This film has less frenetic editing than the prior entries in this series, is thematically a little more interesting (the very notion of the "film franchise" being a textbook example of behavioural control through "neural design"), and makes no mention whatsoever of amnesia. For these reasons, this is the least irritating of the four films made thus far. The failure by critics and audiences to recognise this is further evidence of the pressing need for mass distribution of the blue pills.

Might turn off those who came for pure action, since at least half of this is dedicated to exploring the science and politics of the Bourne series. I don't mind though; I enjoy the technical side, Weisz and Renner are fantastic in their roles, and it still delivers some great fight scenes. Its biggest flaw actually is not delivering a stronger conclusion, since they're too busy setting it up for sequels.

Better than expected considering the general mixed to negative reviews. Renner is good, Weisz is excellent, and I thought they worked well together. Gilroy's direction is solid, if not as slick as Greengrass' and the movie is all a bit linier, and we're not given too much more information in the Bourne universe. But aside from a fairly underwhelming conclusion, I can't point to anything I actively disliked. A perfectly entertaining action thriller.

While The Bourne Legacy lacks the smarts of the previous trilogy it isn't a bad movie. Renner and Weisz are both admirable leads which falter only when the script does, specifically a blossoming romance that feels tremendously forced instead of genuinely. Still, the climatic chase scene at the end of the film, a staple of the Bourne films by now, is in fact one of the best in recent memory making the film worth seeing at least once.

A decent entry in the series and noticeably the worst of the bunch. Jeremy Renner is at times charismatic and surprisingly a good enough replacement for Matt Damon as the lead. Unfortunately The Bourne Legacy suffers from some serious pacing issues when scenes with next to nothing going on will drag on forever with no end in sight. This movie is seriously nothing you haven't already seen before in the series, but if you're a Bourne fan you'll get a certain level of enjoyment out of this one.

A competent sequel that should not have been made. Jeremy Renner is a poor replacement for Matt Damon, the plot just spins its wheels, and I'm just not invested in the proceedings. Competent direction and a few decent action beats can't save this from being an unnecessary, bloated addition to a tightly constructed trilogy.

I saw this an hour ago, and I can't say what it was really about. The story is pretty thin and fairly unoriginal. It ended so abruptly too. I can't fault the film on a technical level - the direction, the cinematography and all that were all good. It just wasn't very engaging. I didn't care about the characters or what was happening to them. Yeah, it was an alright film, but not one I'll remember.

Excellent esponiage film. Already severely underrated. Yes, you will have to turn your brain on and think, for a change, as it is quite complex and sometimes hard to follow. Both Renner and Weisz are on top of their game and deliver. Pacing is spot on and Gilroy is yet again great. The previous Bourne films were all good, but on a different level. I actually prefer 'Legacy'. There I said it. And to you who complain Bourne isn't in it, no shit, really? Renner is a worthy successor.

Matt Damon didn't played role in this film, only his name was used instead. Jason Bourne has been hanging out the dirty laundry of the illegal clandestine programs Treadstone and Blackbriar. To cover up, the top of the conspiracy decides to take out the remaining agents permanently. Among them is Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), from the Outcome program, who flees together with an associated scientist (Rachel Weisz).

Accepting that knowledge from the first three movies helps, and that this is a setup for movies to come, the overall story makes sense and has potential for a good blockbuster and an expanding franchise.
What we're getting is a movie that likes to talk and gives us some overlong monologues and unnecessary scenes, and when it's time to walk most of the action-scenes are letdowns - and I do hate shaky cam and fast cutting action when used to hide lazyness/incompetence...

Come on, fellas; let your franchise die. Rarely before have I seen such a major, big-budget, glossy action movie that's so damned meek and unsure of itself. Also, it assumes (a little arrogantly) that its viewers are all experts in the Bourne mythos and are gonna come in with an encyclopedic knowledge of what went down in that sleepy BOURNE SUPREMACY. I was often pretty lost, and when I wasn't lost, I just didn't care. Renner's sincere performance deserves better.

The action sequences, especially near the end, seemed like a poor imitation of similar scenes in the previous Bourne films, and were the ironically the weakest parts considering that it's an action film. The procedural scenes with Norton's character trying to hunt down the protagonist were strong but lacked real tension. The performances were generally very good and it's a well-shot film, but overall it's forgettable.

Stylistically it's a good successor to the Bourne movies, keeping the aura of intrigue and mixing a great chase sequence towards the end. It does struggle to maintain the energy throughout, and the intrigue just isn't as interesting when we're less invested in the characters, but it's still very good.

It is all quite engaging, up until the last thirty minutes or so, when this smart, tense movie becomes a very, very long chase scene. If you dig chase scenes, this is probably the climax of the film, but I find them to be mostly a drag, and there is really nothing to separate this one from any of the others I've seen in recent years. It is a disappointing resolution to a pretty cool story, but not disappointing enough to erase my mostly good feelings about this picture.

The original trilogy had a nice balance of action and plot. This one tries to strike the same balance, but the difference is that the plot is trite this time. So instead we're left with only half of a good movie and everything in between the action scenes is tiresome. It's still decent for the action sequences, though.

I felt like the first 15-20 minutes really drug (no pun intended), but that's potentially my own fault as I'm not entrenched in the whole Bourne mythology. I'm sure it was more interesting to hardcore fans of the series. Let's just say the movie's intro is not very kind to "Bourne newbies". Indeed the pace barely increases through the flick's first hour. When the personal & political storylines finally intersect it gets better. The ending is very abrupt & not very well-done to me. It's passable.

I liked it, certainly but it could have have been more separate from the Bourne story. Jeremy Renner is great (as are Weisz and Norton and everyone else). It does take too long to get going, so I get the complaints about pacing. My main problem is that it's like a long pre-credits sequence. It just ends which is a shame. Hopefully they do another and just start, bang, go. Worth a watch, loved the Asian Terminator motorcycle sequence (you need to see it to know).

Gilroy's trip to the director's chair is more Greengrass than Liman and decidedly for the worse. While the reboot borrows equal parts for all three of the previous Bourne narratives, the stakes are never really worth caring about and twists just aren't that twisty. Save for a fantastic cast, some captivating spy-novel dialogue and one fantastic action sequence this movie is a dud.

When we heard that Damon was leaving but the saga was continuing, we said it was a shitload of fuck. Maybe. However, Renner isn't the problem with Legacy. Kinetic, frantic action yet also very tangible as every jump, kick and fist to the solar plexus is centered in the bodies of the protagonists within a clearly defined space. It must be hell filming and editing these sequences, but here - as in the previous Bourne movies - it pays dividends several times over. There's little to recommend here beyond some engaging cinematography, especially in the film's first half. Great actors do little to liven up a desperate attempt at holding onto a franchise. The story could have been interesting, but Renner (a gifted pre-star) is given a character of little pursuit and even less intensity. The protagonist is after pills and the government is shady. Renner's performance is terrific, and really holds the film together when everything around him starts to feel like a sluggish bore. The movie takes forever to get going, and comes to an abrupt end about as soon as the ball starts to roll. A handful of great scenes, including the marathon motorcycle chase that comprises the finale, make it worthwhile. Having heard that Paul Greengrass and Doug Liman kept a lot of Gilroy's dumb ideas in check in the trilogy, this pretty much confirms the rumours.

The action and stunts are every bit as compelling as the first three, but without and overriding mystery to solve the story falls a little flat. We're not given a lot of new aspects of the Bourne storyline to work with here. What this seems to lack is that more suspenseful noir spy aspect of the first few Bourne films. We have the same "fugitive" storyline but it seems to be anchored in mostly over the top (by Bourne standards) James Bond like action set pieces. Doug Liman and Paul Greengrass seemed to be better at setting this series up as mostly a thriller. Renner is serviceable but pretty vanilla boring for this type of role.

Meh. Its not bad, but it's just Renner pretending to be Matt Damon pretending to be Bourne. Not worth watching more than once, definitely not a patch on the other 3 films. A different film that they couldn't market, so they cut and pasted words and phrases into the script to tie it in with the others.

Somewhat disappointing. Overwrought performances by Strathairn and others detract from the believability of the story and make it not much fun to watch.

The poor flow and lower amounts of 'oomph' in the set-pieces meant it felt slightly sillier than the others, despite only being as silly.

Renner makes a good lead for this sort of movie, it's just a shame the movie couldn't focus on him like it should have. The movie's biggest setback is that it's a Bourne film.

Like most contemporary action films, just an extended chase sequence.
