Generally well-executed and entertaining. It doesn't really transcend the genre, though, as it is generally pretty predictable and most of its focus lies in proudly displaying the cleverness and outlandishness of its stunts (which are admittedly impressive).

I could state how well edited and shot this film is, but that wouldn't have been very enlightening. (It's Greengrass, so you better expect these things). Instead lets compliment Julia Stiles and Damon, because they manage to portray excellent and interesting characters. (too bad Daniel Brül didn't got the chance to show his talents). ... In a nutshell: this is a pretty entertaining chase/action/spy movie, with a rogue killer who actually gives a damn.

Completely excellent in every respect; Ultimatum hits harder than the two predecessors and has a much better story. Bourne this time plays cat and mouse with the very people who made him the way he is and it's more intense and brutal than ever before. It's easily the best movie in the series and one of the best of the year so far.

(rewatch) This trilogy should seriously be considered as one of the best of all time. The Identity is the best of the 3 but this is a rare 3rd installment which is actually kickass. Sometimes they sacrifice believability to say cool lines ("If you were in your office, we'd be having this conversation in person"), but it's too cool for me to care. If you read my shit you know that I loathe shake cam and this utilizes it heavily and is still amazing, and that's saying something.

A near perfect action film in my opinion. Paul Greengrass' shaky-cam style is more prominant than in Supremacy but I thought it was used just right. You're able to follow the action, except when Greengrass is intentionally trying to disorientate you (eg. the POV of the people chasing Bourne). The action is more intense than ever before, and yet it retains it's somewhat realistic feel. The only thing that brings it down, in my opinion, are a few somewhat corny lines. Amazing action film.

Fans of shaky camerawork and fraction-of-a-second editing will delight in this tale, which would be convincingly realistic if it weren't for the fact that every element is utterly absurd. Mildly tense for a while, but then it dawns on the viewer that the story is about very little, if anything. This was the first entry in the series that I saw.

The most skillful spy trilogy/series of films in history, capped with gritty direction from finesse-maestro Paul Greengrass. Gripping from minute uno, "Ultimatum" manages a handful of strategically engrossing chase sequences ultimately leading to our hero's final reveal. Best film of the summer, and possibly one of the year's best. Finally a threequel sequel that truly delivers this season.

Great action film, and the best of the trilogy. The shakey cam is still somewhat frustrating, but it's been reigned in enough to create an atmosphere that builds through multiple action sequences to a great climax. In a year of sequels and trilogies, The Bourne Ultimatum stands as the best.

The shaky camera and quick cuts are used a little too often, though they work most of the time and the ending, while very good still leaves you wanting a little more. those two small things aside it's an excellent movie with non stop action and interesting plot and the ending, while not perfect, is still good enough to be satisfying.

The ending solidifies this trilogy as one of the all-time greats. Most trilogies that have through-stories are often undermined by an unsatisfactory resolution to the problems created by the first installment. Ultimatum instead delivers a satisfying conclusion without sacrificing great action or any of the style that Liman displayed in the first.

I watched this before I saw the first two, and - though I did have a slight understanding of the basic premise - I felt like I could pick up the story really pretty well! Matt Damon plays Bourne with an amazing confidence, which makes for an interesting character! & while the action scenes are numerous, I still felt like the story and characters developed, plus, Bourne's so skilled that the way he works his way through the action is really interesting! I'm curious to see the first two now!

The Bourne absurdum. It isn't just that Part III in the adventures of the amnesiac superspy adds more ridiculousness. It's that, at these lengths, the ridiculousness multiplies exponentially. More ridiculousness, that is, and more and more ridiculous. The sentimental soft spots found in Parts I and II are here concentrated in a couple of female, motherly, protective, nurturing CIA agents who, alone among their heartless colleagues, are interested in keeping the hero alive.

The action was stellar, as always. The plot needed work, it felt too much like stuff we'd already seen. I like the tension between Landy and the David Strathairn character, but their stakes were higher than our Hero's, which is unconventional. However, the final scene between Bourne and Albert Finney made it all worthwhile.

Why does every scene in this goddamn movie look like it was filmed during a rapid continental shift? Oh look, an intimate moment. I know what guys, lets shake the camera about like there's a fecking earthquake. For me it just completely destroyed any promise the movie might have held, it's just unwatchable. At some moments it gets so goddamn bad I actually checked to see whether my laptop was breaking down. Want to go and see a film that will actually give you vertigo? This is bloody perfect.

(after repeat viewings) A ridiculously well-made action film and overall neat end to a great trilogy. The occasional stabs at pathos felt somewhat perfunctory but the shaky cam bullshit didn't bother me as much as with its predecessor and Considine's presence translates to an extra dose of awesomeness.

A solid action movie but little else. It's fun enough in the moment, but I doubt I'll remember anything about it tomorrow. The movie does a nice job maintaining the suspense throughout, moving at a brisk pace, and providing just enough of a character sketch to care about two or three of these people. But man am I tired of the "subjective" camera technique constantly employed these days in a movie like this.

The second sequel manages to keep the level of previous films in the series. The action is fast, viewing pleasurable and far from boring, but it can't change the fact, that there's little to it to differentiate from hundreds other similar productions and there's a good chance you'll forget it as soon as you leave the cinema.

I love a good action movie and this is easily the new high-bar. The pace was relentless and they were constantly one-upping the last expertly crafted action piece. It also benefited from a much better plot, and somewhat better acting, which is still the series' weakest point.

Hey, here's an idea: Let's use shaky cam in EVERY SINGLE SCENE IN THE FILM! I mean, seriously, if you're going to do that, at least slow it down for one scene at the end for some impact, if not you're really not doing anyone any good. Despite the in-your-face camera work being terribly tiresome, I liked it quite a bit. Has a few great scenes and Bourne is absolutely bad-ass in this installment. I'd say not as good as the second, but definitely a good pick for an action flick.

If you have seen The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy you know the drill: much running and jumping, narrow escapes, close-quarter man-to-man combat, really wobbly camerawork (the unsteady-cam) and extreme close-up for 111 minutes - which does get a bit tiresome.
There is obviously more to Bourne than jumping and fighting, but we dont see enough of that.

very superficial and unrealistic (much like supremacy) with annoying camerawork and editing. and, just as in supremacy, you don't really get a feeling for any of the action thanks to the cheap and somewhat counter-productive visual storytelling. can't help it but like it, though...you know, it still being Bourne and stuff, with Matt Damon, who is, with the possible exception of Julia Stiles, the only cast member, who can actually sell those cliché and unnatural lines.

Its difficult to recapture the intrigue that the original had, but Ultimatum makes up for it with shear badassness. Really, this is example of fantastic pacing and wonderful tension. So much to hate: The director's bizarre addiction to the shaky-cam; the "script" (my favorite: "This is where it started. This is where it's gonna end." Ooooooo); trying to pass off a jowly Matt Damon as an action hero when all I kept seeing in my head was him and Robin Williams crying in each other's arms; the recycling of Brian Cox as the evil genius behind the creation of an enhanced human killing machine (does Bourne have adamantium bones?). A bit of a retread, though a really well made one. I was disappointed by how the villain is aggressively stupid, taking extremely risky and visible maneuvers which almost always undermine his actual goals. The conclusion to the saga of the mildly interesting Terminator Jr. and the not-that-compelling backstory behind him. Again, these movies aren't bad, they're just not close to deserving the praise that's been heaped on them. Yes, more watchable stars come out of the woodwork for this finale, but the story has been stretched too thin at this point. So, sure, if you need a fix of blurry action and David Strathairn yelling at monitors, Ultimatum is your answer. I have no desire to watch it again.
