The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

Meandering drama tells an interesting story, but delivers it in a plodding, rote fashion, feeling like any number of "inspirational" dramas from the Disney stable. Performances are passable, but Ejiofor fails to bring much of a spark to this story (in front of or behind the camera); scenes of brutal civil unrest are arguably the dramatic highlights, but even these have been done better (and with more intensity) in other films. A noble effort, but a bit of a misfire.

A beautiful tale of determination against the odds that resulted in a technological breakthrough that saved a family and a village.

Chiwetel builds enough tension to fit a two hour movie. It never gets boring. Great feature directorial debut. Solid screenplay, great music and beautiful cinematography.

heartwarming and well-shot story of a young boy's ingenuity in a time of great need & strife, but gets a bit lost in the middle with melodrama

The story, based on true events, is an interesting and inspirational one. Filmwise however I found it a bit boring and longer than it needed to be. Lots of subplots are introduced that weren't needed and could have been trimmed. It doesn't show the tediousness or struggle of learning, which makes the resolution feel a bit sudden and magical. The gender roles are incredibly stereotypical, which to some degree could be expected, but the way it's presented makes the film feel a bit archaic. Mixed.
