The trailer makes this film look far better and more intellectual than it is. That's how you know it's bad. Overall, it's a terribly written film that depicts the entire spectrum of gays as a bunch of disposable vapid assholes. The characters are all wretched and unlikable. I understand that that's kind of the point, but there's simply too much drama. I don't think this film needed to be remade. These issues are no longer relevant. That aside, the acting all around is quite good.

This film is a remake of a 70's film (& adaptation of a play), neither of which I have seen. It exists as a period piece, incorporating the gross stereotypes presumably present in the original to deliver a middling film that seems both irrelevant & unnecessary. The characters are at times sympathetic but fundamentally unlikable, though the cast do a commendable job bringing them to life. Ultimately Ryan Murphy produces another gay-centric project that is neither poignant nor entertaining.

Although the acting is phenomenal, the film doesn't offer too much, at least today. And it drags itself a bit too long.

gays are drama queens, the remake?

Like THE PROM, this seems like an easy way for Netflix to capitalize on much needed demographics without offering anything actually new. And though this often seems like a verbatim remake, the acting and historical context of the original script kept me interested. But by the end, I think Parsons' final desperate moment of catharsis is still a relevant sentiment and something younger queer people should watch.

Yet another movie that did not need a remake, and of course they botched it. We're told the time is 1968, yet apart from a few set props and pieces of clothing, it looks and feels much more like a 10-year old sit-com. Completely absent is the bitter melancholy that so often came with being gay during that era of brutal repression. It's a gay "Big Bang Theory" with about an eighth of the funny lines.
