Le Tout Nouveau Testament is not only refreshingly original, it's thoroughly entertaining. This film is cleverly written, setting up hilarity through exposition, and surprisingly avoids becoming smug or preachy by letting itself simply be a "feel-good" film. The ending may have been the film's weakest aspect, but it's still somewhat satisfying, and I was laughing, loudly, throughout. The cast is great and the film is visually appealing with a good use of music; it's hard not to like this film.

Classic Jaco magic, brimming with curious fantasy touches and morose humour seldom seen in Belgian productions. Granted, it gets progressively worse, right up to its shockingly lame ending which renders the entire plot obsolete. Props, however, for finally portraying God like the giant asshole that he really is.

What it lacks in CG budget is more than made up for in imaginative storytelling. An absolute delight

I love the playful tone, the wonderful visuals, the sense of humour that is sometimes innocent and sometimes jaded yet maintains consistency across the spectrum. I love the way the film incorporates existential questions without turning them in treatises or lectures. Most of all, though, I love every single characterization, building so much out of little moments and finding humanity in absurdity.

Some silly metaphors in a Jeunet-like setting of surreal happenings. Certainly not for me.

I haven't got the faintest idea what I've just watched. There really is no point to all of this.

Sorry, I don't think God or anyone would choose to make Brussels the first ever city. This movie starts off on the wrong foot at the very start of Genesis. I don't really like how they depicted God in this film. A drunken, abusive and perverted pedophile of a father. It's almost like this movie wanted to be shocking and disgusting right from the start. The movie gets a lot better when it focuses on God's daughter Ea who is super cute and likable. Also the collection of the 6 Apostles...

Wildly imaginative, funny and touching. It drags on a bit too long, but the superbe music and the overall styling choices inspired by Amélie definitely make up for that.

Charming story, well acted by the young girl and father. Definitely influenced by Jeunet, but not as well constructed. Goes on a bit too long, and loses it slightly in the third act.

Well-meaning and not too painful to watch but sadly unremarkable. The main device concerning a Brussels-based God and his family seems very interesting but is proven half-baked, inconsistent gibberish. And if that wasn't enough, here's another 6 poorly-developed, clichéd characters with too little screen time each. The attempts at humour often - but not always - come off as hit-and-miss, and the film, more often cringe-inducing than relatable, is ultimately salvaged by the striking imagery.

Don't watch it if you are not in your Amélie mood. So much silly moments like there is no organised scenario, sloppy dialogues and some magical moments. That's all and also not so funny. Musics are perfect though.

Awful, awful, awful. Brainlessly quirky, treacly feel-good tripe for the post-Amélie generation, with a bit of "daddy God sniffs his 10 year old daughter's underwear" shock humor thrown in for good measure. Worse yet, I stuggled mightily to stay awake for the film's duration, which virtually never happens to me in the cinema. Twelve bonus points for being not merely bad, but indeed unforgettable trash.

This movie shows the secret truth, which all religious institutions are hiding it from us. Also it is the most accurate portrayal of god possible.

This is a terrific set-up that gets plenty of brilliantly amusing jokes out of God looking for his daughter in his own creation. I found it very satisfying to see our creator/ruler deduced to a lowly human status. Though this film is more about his daughter, who is like a second coming for what becomes probably the most progressive society ever depicted in a film. Each one of her disciples is a blast to watch, and they get even weirder when they get together.

Amazing that you can make such a bad movie out of a premise filled with so much potential. What this could have become with a bit of development - like really, the most creative sudden death you can come up with is being hit by a truck?
Instead, it strings one insipid scene after another, develops not a single of its flat characters, employs way too many badly done special effects and cliché Amelie-style interludes and by the end completely has forgotten what it intended to say. Disappointin

van Dormael is a creative, visually competent filmmaker and I really looked forward to this. It didn't exactly disappoint, but it does get progressively more messy and dumb throughout - the ending is terrible. Tries to do too much, and in the end I'm not sure it accomplishes anything. Sometimes it plays extremely broad comedy notes (literally, silly music and all), completely jarring in tone to the - while always presented humorously - fairly philosophical premise. It's all over the place.

Interesting premise, but ultimately too pointless. It was weird, but not weird enough to be considered good just out of its weirdness. So, it just ended up being pointlessly weird.
