The Bride with White Hair

One of the best fantasy wuxia movies ever made. Lin is gorgeous and alternates between achingly sad and completely psychotic, and the villain is a hilarious Siamese twin freakshow.

I love this fantasy, it's got a dream like quality to it and an operatic feel. This film made me fall in love with Brigitte Lin.

Cheesy Hong Kong fantasy action adventure film elevated over the run of the mill by two great leads and some effectively weird touches like the Siamese twin villain(s). Lin is one of the most hypnotic presences in Chinese cinema, going from aloof and virginal warrior, to lovesick young girl, to vengeful witch like she was born to it.

While the martial arts is far from the most outstanding, tho still good and very enjoyable, the whole movie is lifted up by the performances and chemistry between its two leads Leslie Cheung & Brigitte Lin and the fairy-tale, melodramatic bordering on kitsch mood the cinematography and production design creates.

While it does feature some crazy, enjoyable stuff and a hilariously weird villain, the movie overall wasn't terribly interesting. Maybe I went in with unreasonable expectations, or maybe I expected móre crazy, enjoyable stuff.
