The Builder

If The Comedy is a scathing indictment of hipster cynicism and misplaced irony, and New Jerusalem is an accurate and nuanced (if somewhat slight) portrayal of depression, this is a much vaguer depiction of general anomie and aimlessness, which consequentially makes it an all-around more amorphous and less distinct film. What the three films do share is a subtle yet insistent political conscience and a real, compassionate understanding of working-class American life.
