The Butterfly Tree

Oddball but endearing fantasy film manages to heighten its drama just enough to make most of the somewhat problematic story elements palatable (not entirely sure why we needed contrasting inappropriate relationships at the heart of this). Beautifully crafted and designed (with striking colour design); Oxenbould, Leslie and an ethereal George make the most of the sometimes strange material handed to them.

The story line is fresh and full of tension. Melissa George was gorgeous and played a mesmerizing character. The drama with the father and son was also very engaging and easily held my interest. I enjoyed this movie perhaps a little more than I should have. It was sweet, fun and exciting at times. It also touched on a few difficult subjects. Also I really liked the music.
