Underseen and underappreciated. A shame since it's very well written and acted, going for meticulous character development and the occasional satirical jabs in some talky (and funny!) set-pieces instead of a dramatic story arc, which reminded me of Altman's "Gosford Park". Bogdanovich' mise-en-scène is subtle, but elegant, showing a keen sense of aesthetics, applying muted colors to render the period.

Nice speculation of the possible events as described, but the writing isn't so good and the performances (except Eddie Izzard's Charlie Chaplin) aren't special.

The primary audience which will find this appealing are those who love old Hollywood legends, particularly around famous and interesting characters like Hearst or Chaplin.

This would have been better with better casting. I personally find Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Tilly to be pretty annoying.

i had watched 45 minutes of this, then went to bed with the intention of watching the rest the next day, but then realised i had to hand it back to the rental place early. oh well, i wasn't liking it that much anyway. mostly pompous chatter that really isn't all that interesting to listen to.

Kirsten Dunst was wonderful as the beautiful flirtatious, and loyal love interest of Randolph Hearst. It exposes Hearst as entitled and above the law, a fierce businessman, but also a jealous, insecure lover. Some acting was somewhat unconvincing. Some good period jazz music. It has several good tense moments, but also many others which are more tedious than remarkable.

Decent movie, although not the most engaging story. Very good performances from Kirsten Dunst & Eddie Izzard.

This film has several good moments. There are also a few slow spots throughout this movie. Some of the performances are good, the standout up being from Kirsten Dunst. Overall l would recommend this film.
