The Cave: An Adaptation of Plato's Allegory in Clay
This film is a short adaptation of Plato's, 'Allegory of the Cave' animated in clay. An excerpt from Plato's Republic, the 'Allegory of the Cave' is a classic commentary on the human condition. It is a story showing how true reality is not always what it seems to be on the surface. It is a story of open-mindedness and the power of possibility. We have adapted and brought it to life by shooting thousands of high-resolution photographs of John Grigsby's wonderful clay animation. (imdb)

This is rather effective, in spite of the simplicity of the adaptation, perhaps because the allegory is itself so exceedingly cinematic, an account, two and a half millennia before the invention of cinema, of the way in which our perception, that is, our apprehension of appearances, is a matter of projection and screen. Beyond an allegory of the philosopher, it is, corrected, an account of the cinematic character of human consciousness itself, which is what makes it "available" for the cinema.

Nice animation. Also fascinatingly intellectual for a film that's so short. An old tale, but one that will probably remain forever relevant, as there are some things about the human condition that never change much

bit simple, nice looking claymation, rather creepy vibe. certainly still relevant in a sense today.
