The Cave (2005)
Deep in the Romanian forest, a team of scientists stumbles upon the ruins of a 13th century Abbey. On further inspection, they make a startling discovery -- the Abbey is built over the entrance to a giant underground cave system. Local biologists believe the cave could be home to an undiscovered eco-system, so they hire a group of American cave-explorers to help them investigate its depths. (Sony)

Enjoyable horror/thriller as the suspense is built up well throughout the flick. The darkness and confined spaces works well, and the acting is pretty good. I believe it helps to have been in a cave before yourself.

The complete avoidance of character development, alternately giggle- and cringe-inducing dialogue, hectic violence and strict adherence to nearly every monster movie cliché ever invented don't help. I must have spent about twenty of the hundred or so minutes actually watching the movie. The rest of the time I was just playing Pac-man. For all I know it could be the greatest movie ever made, though I have my doubts.

Very similar to the "Sanctum", but a little bit better. The potentially prolific plot regarding the ruins of an abbey remains - unfortunately - omitted, but the main plot has some twists which are not so stereotypical as in the "Sanctum". There is no overly dramatic acting. I like the idea of the strange living creatures and the way they are becoming who they are. This is indeed interesting, and, what's more, it's not so happy-Hollywood-styled. The ending has a potential, too.
