The first 5 minutes are great. The rest, crap. Only video games have "ice areas" and "fire areas" in the same cave. Watch "The Descent" for a good cave movie.

Pro tip: Take your painkillers before watching. Shaky-cam & jumpy editing + pounding yourself in the head = headache.

Paper-thin stuff. I didn't quite track why they went into the cave. I couldn't tell who was who, because the camera never rests on anyone's face for longer than a second. I was genuinely confused during most of the action. It's not a bad looking film (though very 2005) and you get glimpses of what you think might be some decent practical effects, but it's all speculation. Blink and you miss it. The editing process really crippled this one.

"The Cave" is not a good film. It isn't a scary movie, it isn't very thrilling, and it has very little redeeming value. You won't care about the characters, you won't feel like you are actually in a cave, and you will likely end up more bored than anything else. If there is one plus that comes from the ending, it's that the film didn't make enough money to warrant a sequel. If you really need a cave film, watch "The Descent" instead, as there is at least a reason to see it: It isn't a bad movie.

not horror...

To be honest, for standard horror-science fiction fare, it isn't half-bad for a while, but once the cave-dwelling creatures start to emerge, the movie begins a rapid descent into unappealing, mechanical action-horror clichés, taking what might have been a passable vehicle for genre junkies and turning it into the b-movie schlock

I've seen recently several flicks with the same output than this. Cave, water, unknown company. This version was the worst one. In better hands it could be a decent B-movie.

This is a really solid low budget horror B-Movie. Not sure why this gets all the hate but I've always enjoyed this.

Enjoyable horror/thriller as the suspense is built up well throughout the flick. The darkness and confined spaces works well, and the acting is pretty good. I believe it helps to have been in a cave before yourself.

So thrilling. If you were claustrophobic like me, it would drum up the suspense. MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it

Good settings, terrible writing, terrible acting, no story, bad science, clichéd conflicts, derivative monsters, ludicrous deaths, trite ending.

It's so awful that it brought audiences a direct-to-video spinoff called "The Cavern." If it's titled weren't so inspired, I might take away two more points.

I must have spent about twenty of the hundred or so minutes actually watching the movie. The rest of the time I was just playing Pac-man. For all I know it could be the greatest movie ever made, though I have my doubts.

I think "dumb as all hell" aptly describes this mess. The sound effects blow, the acting blows, the dialogue blows, the script blows, the cinematography blows, and the creatures blow. Oh, and the casting, outside of Hauser, blew. And the bicycle helmets looked really dumb. And the ripoff predator vision blew. And you blow if you liked this crap. It was like a bad fan fiction novel and a Gatorade ad come to life. It's THAT stupid, and it deserves all the bad praise it gets.

We are cautioned to "Respect the Cave" in this movie. Should I respect real caves, or are they pleading with me to respect this horrid film?

With a promising opening the film then quickly rollercoasters into a predictable modern monster flick (which is not good btw). With a plot that made me cringe and acting and characters that were flat for the most part this films only saving grace are the Creatures which look fairly cool, but thats it. Steer clear, not even good entertainment.

The complete avoidance of character development, alternately giggle- and cringe-inducing dialogue, hectic violence and strict adherence to nearly every monster movie cliché ever invented don't help. The Cave is a dark, disorienting place that will have lots of people looking for a way out of the theater. (pluggedin.com)

Respect the cave!

The best part of the movie was re-watching parts of it with the stupidest commentary ever recorded. Oh, and watching it in other languages to see how exclamations change.

Very similar to the "Sanctum", but a little bit better. The potentially prolific plot regarding the ruins of an abbey remains - unfortunately - omitted, but the main plot has some twists which are not so stereotypical as in the "Sanctum". There is no overly dramatic acting. I like the idea of the strange living creatures and the way they are becoming who they are. This is indeed interesting, and, what's more, it's not so happy-Hollywood-styled. The ending has a potential, too.

Just watch 'The Descent' instead

Why does Cole Hauser take jobs like the Cave and 2 Fast 2 Furious? The Cave was somewhat interesting, but it seemed like a been-there-done-that affair that the director didn't quite finish. The visuals, Cole Hauser's performance, and the ending are the only reasons my rating made it this high.

Dwarfed in every way imaginable by The Descent.

Never reach the depth of Alien or Pitch Black. It's not that bad either. Just meh.

Horrible. Almost comepletely unreedeemable. Scratch that, it is.

Respect the cave! Date the cave! Show the cave a good time! Buy the cave dinner and take the cave out to a movie! Call the cave the next morning and treat the cave to pancakes! Don't forget the cave's birthday and never talk bad about the cave's mother! This ends part 1 of Cave Etiquette.

This film, at some point along the production process, had the potential to be good. It was squandered.
