Very imaginative and at times achingly funny.

Chaplin was in fine form here but the real highlight was the dastardly villain full of mustache twirling evil.

There's a coherent plot, plenty of nicely staged physical comedy, and a cute bulldog. One of Chaplin's best two reelers by this time.

about boxing, so predictably it consists of men beating each other up. also has one of chaplin's most pathetic female characters.

It picks up during the boxing match, but this is pretty limp in terms of anything funny actually happening on screen--they needed to cut about ten minutes from the middle of the film--the whole bribe angle adds nothing.
