If one looks up the definition to the oxymoron "surprisingly decent", this film would be used as the example. The genre feels tired in places. But the experience is buoyed by some snappy dialogue, punchy direction from Gene Kelly, and the obvious report between offscreen/onscreen Best Buds Fonda and Stewart (the real relationship that anchors the film). A Social Club worth the visit.

Witty, innuendo-laden dialogue keeps perennial heroes (and real-life pals) Stewart and Fonda wide-eyed and stammering as they awkwardly come to terms with inheriting a whorehouse. The jaunty script and Kelly’s featherlight direction make for an enjoyable piece of breezy, western fluff, the ageing pair even acing the obligatory shootout against an entire gang of marauding cowboys.

Not a bad little western but as others have mentioned it's pretty forgettable. It's one of those films you put on when you want to relax and not think or concentrate too much.

A likable, albeit forgettable Western about a couple of old cowboys (Heny Fonda, Jimmy Stewart) who find themselves in possession of a whorehouse.

A fairly gently western which falls short of a comedy but hasn't the grit of a true western. Having said that Fonder and Stewart are perfectly and deliver marvellous performances. One of the films which shows Gene Kelly was also a very proficient Director. Somewhat of a non-ending but worth seeing for the main characters performances alone.
