The Child

The evil devil child subgenre still hasn’t reached the fit of despair that is waiting in the self-checkout at Target. Yeah this has demons but have you ever had a child whip your shins with a pool noodle while searching for organic bananas? Literal Hellspawn. This film has none of that drama.

Looooooooow budget that's for sure. The girl in this movie is a huge brat with mind powers. Zombies show up later. Meh.

A girl and her ghouls. It's a good idea, and it does occasionally transcend the poor script, nonexistent budget and wooden acting to deliver some decent gothic freakout nightmare. The trouble is that it can't seem to conceive of a scene as anything BUT a gothic freakout nightmare, including the long stretches where bloody nothing happens. Someone remake this, please?

This low budget horror has a strong regional atmosphere and some nice cinematography, but it's also rough around the edges and contains weak acting, clumsy direction, editing and score. The finale reaches an almost dreamlike state which reminded me of Italian horror films - which is not a bad thing. It's not a good film, but I can see why someone else might rank it higher.
