Well, not many people can claim that they have saved 60 kids' lives; so story-wise it was interesting. The historical period is one I'm not very familiar with; thus it was enjoyable on that front too. But, as with a lot of life accounts, the story and dialogues were stunted and the jumps in time were disorienting. Actually, due to this, it was not possible to appreciate the enormity of the feat they achieved. A great event in history, a weak timepiece for cinema.

In China as the 2nd World War erupts, a British journalist (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) was sent to an orphanage to learn Chinese but became the patriarch of a group of children. Intertwined is the story of a doctor (the lovely Radha Mitchell) and a Chinese army officer (Yun-Fat Chow) struggling to help. The story was engaging, well scripted, and the acting superb, but I kept wanting to see a love story develop that didn't. A heartwarming true life adventure that was nearly cut short several times.
